    Karma Connection Main Thread Idea.....

If it was a really popular idea, perhaps the best solution would be to add a new 'Karma Connection' forum, separate from the BST forum. That way, anyone could post a new thread with their free goods. (That said, I suppose you also could just use the BST forum, and mark your stuff as 'FREE', as...

    Karma Connection Main Thread Idea.....

Great idea. I think anyone who builds lasers regularly has some leftover stuff/parts they may never use and would be happy to 'donate' to someone who might make better use of them. It can't hurt to try it. -Andy

    Battery for Saik 305

jayrob, Are three 14500's always necessary for a buck, or is it possible to get away with two? (as I've seen folks use bucks with 2x18650's). Aren't 14500's the same voltage? -Andy

    Battery for Saik 305

I just ran into this too. I think you'll have to go 32600. (Hopefully someone else can confirm, as I don't know if any of the documented Saik builds on the forum have discussed this much, from what I've read.) I'm working on a Saik too, and got a 32650, which seems a bit too long. And that's...

Common battery sizes and types - A guide

Great summary! Very informative for new folks. +1 Rep. :) I think this could definitely be expanded, and could be a sticky eventually. (For example, you could add something about 26650's, which are also popular for lasers.) -Andy

    The Copper Behemoth!

I've seen Flitz, but I've never used it, so I can't really say. You won't be disappointed with Simichrome, though. I first learned about it from an old gf who worked in a brass instruments repair shop in Boston. It was the only stuff they used to polish very expensive horns, trumpets, etc...

    The Copper Behemoth!

Regarding keeping copper looking great, I have a bunch of copper laser stuff, and there's one polish that absolutely kicks ass for keeping it looking brilliant, with minimal effort: Simichrome. Happich Simichrome Polish - Metal Polish - As Low As $7.99! I don't bother to clearcoat any of my...

Laser Contests - Support, Suggestions & Questions!

Re: Forum Competitions! Thanks, man. :thanks:. Hopefully we can get enough people to agree to the nomination process and post their choices, and we can get some fair kind of organization here. BTW, I love the grab bag idea, as most people who've been building for a while has some collection...

Laser Contests - Support, Suggestions & Questions!

Re: Forum Competitions! Updated post #66 above with my and SBA's nominations. Others, (norbyx, bloompyle, etc), feel free to post your nominations. NOTE: To keep things simple, please try to state all 5 category picks in one post. (See my example in post #68 above)

Laser Contests - Support, Suggestions & Questions!

Re: Forum Competitions! If people want, feel free to nominate from the above, and we can see what the group prefers. Pick one option per category, post your preferences in this thread, and I'll keep a running tally in the above post. For example, my nominations would be "best use of copper, 2...

Laser Contests - Support, Suggestions & Questions!

Re: Forum Competitions! Yeah, I meant this as an optional donation (from entrants or non-entrants), not an entry requirement. You know, we could mix it up, with all of the ideas here. (One competition have judges, the next one can be democratic, etc). We need some organization here, and a...

Laser Contests - Support, Suggestions & Questions!

Re: Forum Competitions! I'm definitely in favor of voting over having a panel of judges. We need to tap the intelligence of this fine group. :) Here's a proposal: - Hold a 1-week poll now to pick the subject (based on all of the ideas so far). - Have a 3-month time limit, with a $150...

Laser Contests - Support, Suggestions & Questions!

Re: Forum Competitions! Vintage Light is one of my all-time favorite builds on this forum. It's inspired me to get into vintage hosts, and fall in love with 473. (Many thanks and kudos to ZRaffle and jayrob for a job well done.) I'd love to see more vintage builds, as there are a lot of...

Time to Upgrade from you HDTV to UHDTV

Regarding content, I think you're going to start seeing 4K/8K content offered by folks such as Netflix, etc, and other streaming services, more readily than before. (You're also going to be able to download it to your tablet or mobile device and plug it directly into your 8K TV. Trust me, I...

Looking for new soldering iron, suggestions?

FWIW, if you're looking for a simple, quality pen, I'm a huge fan of my Weller WM120. It's more of a soldering pencil, as it's super small. Only 12 watts, and ultra thin tip make it great for laser work.

USERS' thoughts on their 5W LPM systems

I second everything ARG and awillis said. I researched the heck out of the various LPM options out there when I was in the market for one, and especially for the money, the Ophir is the way to go IMHO. Two batteries and a multimeter are all you need in addition to the head, and the response...

    Boost or no boost?

Thinksnow, One clarification to Rotten John's answer, but a boost driver needs to be used if you want to use one 18650 (3.7V), *and* you're driving either a 445 or 405 diode. 445 diodes need about 4.5 volts, and 405's need about 6 volts. Since both are larger than the battery voltage (for a...
