Yep, I'm very familiar with their PLCs as well. I'm starting to get into ladder logic programming for Allen-Bradley and some other brands that we use.

Welcome to the forum! I deal with some Allen-Bradley products myself. We use some of their drives in our production facility. Mostly the PowerFlex series drives.

Re: SF501b 445nm blue laser "as is", plus extras $40 (REDUCED!) Not necessarily! If it's a clean build, with commonly used parts, maybe not very difficult. Otherwise, it's much easier to start with new, clean. unmolested components.

Nice! Also, I'd just like to mention that those 501b hosts can be found for pretty cheap, and the internals can be swapped out pretty easy. You can pick up a different color host, swap out the module, and have a "brand new" laser!

@lasertechgear Can't open the exact link without signing up to that 'geek' website. I do have access to a manual lathe and end mill. I actually used the lathe with the 15/32 drill bit to make sure I got the hole as centered as possible. I do have access to 12mm end mill bits also. But I tried...

My main 2nd hobby would be automotive. I have several projects, including an '03 BMW 325i, '72 F100 short bed 2wd w/429C.I. big block, and the one I've been paying the most attention to lately, my '04 Mazdaspeed MX-5. I've done a crap load of work to this thing! Including a full Fox suspension...

If you want to do a cheaper build, and since you don't have any yet, try a Mitsubishi 500mw diode. You can push those to just over 1W. The divergence is horrible, but it's still cool. And DTR has the diodes for $29 ea. I just ordered a diode and 1.2a driver from him, and I'm planning on sticking...

^ This basically. There's a couple of threads about these. But right now it looks like they're just not readily available yet. And some companies they claim to have them are price gouging the hell out of them to see what they can potentially get people to pay for them. Hopefully this will change...

My work just got a handful of 15/32 drill bits in, so I snagged a couple. :shhh: I don't know the brand, but they got them from Fastenal, and they seem to cut through aluminum like butter. Since these 12mm modules are actually a hair under 12mm, this bit size works perfect.

Re: Where do you store your lasers? Same here. I sold a Kimber 1911 a few years ago, and the guy didn't want the case! I can fit over a half dozen smaller units in it.

Do you have a multi-meter? If you can get it laid out, and get the meter probes on the LD + and - and power it on, you can at least see if there's any voltage going through the driver. But that's about it without a test load, or a different driver/diode to swap out.

Efest batteries are good. Do a search for Efest 14500 battery, in Google or even Ebay. You should be able to visually tell if it's a flat top. It just won't have the little bump on the + side.
