Has anybody messed with the new 2.5W G85 yet?

Re: Has anybody messed with the new 2.5W Mits diode yet? My impression is that this one is a much newer version which makes me think it might be able to be pushed harder. Not really sure how correctable or powerful until somebody tries it though.

Has anybody messed with the new 2.5W G85 yet?

The ML562G85 came out to us earlier this year, and a few of you posted about it. I know it's a dual emitter multimode diode, but has anybody at least tried to work with one yet? I keep seeing them pop up at fairly reasonable prices, so I figured somebody may have snagged one. Even laserlands...

Long time; no build: 505nm Leadlight

Well, I guess I should have kept checking. That's awesome news. Thanks. +rep in a bit.

    New high power Rocket launch

Very cool Seoul. Make sure to share the program with us if you get the chance. I never get to watch local launches since they always seem to be at the wrong time.

Long time; no build: 505nm Leadlight

Very nice build RA, that's exactly what I've had in mind for this round of diodes as well. Edit: See Encap's post. I really wish they'd come back. They've been sold out for about a year now, and I can't find any other suppliers of comparable ones. I've had two modules ready for pen builds...

    Hurricane Irma

No worries Curtis, I just keep seeing people on FB using those sorts of models to justify all sorts of ridiculous fears of where it will hit or complain about how nobody knows where they'll actually go, and it's painful for me to see. I really do wonder what Avery has against such a popular...

    Hurricane Irma

 I'm sorry Curtis, but they do not. People really need to stop sharing those because it's really misinforming people. That one looks like a plot of several paths, but the ones that are really bad are the ********* plots with several different colored lines. That's more of a way to compare...

    Hurricane Irma

The problem is the land which has difficult to determine effects. It may strengthen to a lower end Cat 4 if it's more over water than Florida, but hitting Florida likely won't let it get much stronger. Worst case would be missing Florida and going entirely into the Gulf which would bump it back...

    Hurricane Irma

Actually down to Cat 3 for a little while now. Looks like Cuba is really weakening it. We'll have to see how it fares when it gets to more open water again as it moves northward. It's terrible that Jose is going to hit a bunch of those Leeward Islands again though. Barbuda was frantically...

    Hurricane Irma

This is literally the most ridiculous storm I've watched in years. Despite predictions, Irma's back at Cat 5, bigger, and looking like it's going to track along the Gulf Coast of Florida now. Outer bands are moving over southern Florida now, and looks like US landfall will start tomorrow night...

    Hurricane Irma

Sounds like they're starting to send evacuation orders out in the low-lying and exposed coastal areas around Tampa now. Hope you hear from her soon. Jander, how are evacuations in Ft. Myers? Sounds like Miami and the Keys are really ramping up evacuation orders and preparation, and you're not...

2X14500's Hosts Brass and Copper Mix

Definitely some nice hosts Rich. I really like the copper and brass look as well. Maybe next time we can see a copper/brass and SS combo?;)

    Hurricane Irma

Luckily (for you), if the storm goes straight up through Florida significantly over land, it should weaken a lot faster but fairly unpredictably. The concern earlier was that it'd just graze the coast but mostly be over water like Harvey was for a while. That lets it keep power longer and...

    Space Discussion Thread

Probably has more to do with the moon being low on the horizon and atmospheric conditions. A lot like a sunset or sunrise. It makes a huge difference in color if you watch rising or setting astronomical objects.

Very nice photo diachi. That reminds me about the lunar eclipse this January. Timing won't be great in North America, but in the early morning of January 31st, a total Lunar eclipse should be visible for most of the continent. Best views towards the west. The full eclipse should be visible over...

    Because ?

The language barrier might also be too much of an issue with him. I don't understand much of what he's trying to say, and his understanding of us is probably not great either. Either way, this isn't appropriate for a forum thread, so please stop posting like this 3DLaSeRBuiLDeR.

    Hurricane Irma

That's really worrying me too. I just hate that this hurricane season is also far from over, so there's no telling when we'll see the end of these powerful storms for the year. Hopefully we go back into a lull soon.

    Hurricane Irma

I just got emails from some server hosts that they were shutting down in preparation for the hurricane. Never happened to me before in the last 10 years they've hosted in Florida. I guess Miami's going to take a direct hit almost definitely which will be awful. That city isn't much better than...

I've seen a very slight aurora at 38 degrees a few times, so I think it's always at least worth a check.

    Any mid-IR sources besides blackbodies?

There is a physical limitation imposed by the semiconductors in LED and laser diodes that prevents electromagnetic radiation outside of certain ranges, so you're not going to be able to get anything like that to work. Not sure what you're looking for aside from that, but I feel like gas tubes...
