    Should Mohrenberg be banned?

When I first saw the title of this post, I thought "who the heck could want Mohrenburg banned?" Then I saw the post's author and realized that only a truly mean guy like Mohrenburg could have done this. :P

    250mw Green RPL Style

Re: 250mw Green RPL Hmm... That's unfortunate that it's so unstable. Well, at least now you know! How easy is it to open the laser up? You might be able to improve it a bit.

Ready to jump on 12x train !!!

After reading Dave's thread, I'm beginning to doubt that this is a new diode. The most non-destructive way to do this would be to compare the power efficiency curves for a bunch of 8x's and 12x's. Dave, do you have a full 8x drive lying around? I'm interested in seeing the differences in all...

    18650 battery question

3.7V is the nominal voltage. You'll find that the battery operates at 4.2V for a comparatively small amount of time. Yes, assuming you have a charger that senses the voltage of the battery, you can charge the battery from any state, but if you're trying to use the battery as only a 4.2V...

    Disassemble Opto 150mW pen

john_lawson was able to take them apart with minimal damage using really big pliers and some thick leather, IIRC. You should ask him.

Is there any new boost drivers available?

I have one of the O-Like blu-ray drivers. As advertised, it has a max of 150mA. I found that mine had a funny pot, though; I couldn't get it to stabilize for a while and found that to get the current I wanted, I needed to solder a little SMD resistor on top of another: click for big pic...

    Canton, MA: It's Your Turn

Hmm, I'll keep an eye on this. I live in MA, but not very close to Canton and we only have small cars. Edit: closer than I thought. This might be doable. :) <- me at the prospect of finally getting an argon.

    Clean Beamshots from my Greenie

The last one was, yeah. I realized that the laser must have wobbled or something because there's a slight streak to the left. The second to last is just pointed at some bushes in our backyard. Hahaha, I'd definitely put that on my dorm door. I made this sign a while ago: I'm planning on...

Triple Play: 3 Lasers with Ehgemus's Hosts

Thanks. Once all the parts are here and they work correctly, the actual build process is pretty simple. Installing the green module took all of 15 minutes because it was just a matter of bypassing the switch and throwing it into Ehgemus's expertly designed hosts. The bluray took probably...

    Clean Beamshots from my Greenie

Are you referring to the little dots that appear on dark images? That's not the result of lasers; for whatever stupid reason, this camera model has those defects (I went on a trip to Rome with the camera and was rather upset to see a damn green spot in all of my pictures when I got back. When...

    Clean Beamshots from my Greenie

I'm finally getting somewhat decent at taking good beamshots. Laser: SKY Lasers 300mW w/ Tripod from SKY. All the original pics are from here: Laser Pictures But in case you're too lazy to click a link, you can see them below. Click on them for a full size (2592x1944) image.

Triple Play: 3 Lasers with Ehgemus's Hosts

This is probably stupid of me to bump the thread, but I finally got all the parts and tools necessary to build the last laser in the set, the red. After my first LOC diode never even got off the launch-pad, I had to buy another one (why do these projects always end up costing more than they are...

    help on a gaming computer?

From the mobo specifications: Memory Standard DDR3 2133 OC So, you need to get DDR3 RAM. 2133 is the clock speed of the RAM that the motherboard can handle, but you'll find that DDR3 2133 RAM is pretty darn expensive. So, I'd recommend getting 1800Mhz RAM instead; it's much cheaper and...

    help on a gaming computer?

And that was all in Windows, right? In Linux, the story is pretty different. Linux software RAID algos are spectacular. I haven't done any full benchmarks, but I recently found a throughput of about 120MiB/s with 3 drives consistently using less than 5% of a single core at a time. This is on...

    help on a gaming computer?

Maybe 10 years ago software RAID sucked. Now, most experts will say that software RAID is as fast or faster than hardware RAID because systems are powerful enough to handle the throughput. There's absolutely no need to get an external card unless you plan to put like 10 drives in RAID.

    help on a gaming computer?

The Phenom II is a great budget CPU; in most tests, it performs somewhat worse than the i7, but for a gamer, it probably isn't bad. The 8 thread capability of the Core i7 is useful to me, but for gaming, it's useless. However, you might want to take a look at the cheaper Core i5s and do a...

    help on a gaming computer?

I build my own systems. You get more for your money. For $1700, I built this: Intel Core i7 920 (OC'd to 3.2GHz without any change to Vcore) EVGA X58 Mobo (EVGA mobos are typically more expensive, but they have constantly been rated as top-tier; I was willing to pay a little more) 6GB DDR3...

All LPF members invited to big party in Texas

Man, I need to take a trip down South sometime. I have made it a goal to have real Southern BBQ at least once in my life.
