Engraving with laser diode: need some help

An f-theta lens will correct that. But that doesn't make this any less silly to attempt with a laser diode... :p Trevor

    Bad vibes with shortround 92

Ok, so here it is, all sequential: Fairly normal up until this point. Now comes the question about soldering leads to the diode and pressing it into a module: Flaminpyro refuses, citing his policy, and asks for proof of age. Also asks if the buyer is "all thumbs." This is the bit...

    Bad vibes with shortround 92

Dang. That's a long correspondence. If you don't object, I think I'll spend a few minutes and organize the messages and repost it as sequential quotes. Good of you to be totally transparent, including some material which might seem damning. ( Edit: I suppose it would be useful for FP to confirm...

    A Poll of Probable Futility

I nominate this sticky for removal: http://laserpointerforums.com/f51/luminosity-data-logger-releases-updates-build-notes-49848.html It ceased being relevant as soon as Peregrine came out, and the last meaningful update was 3 years ago... :p Trevor

    CoD Ghosts anyone?

If what /r/gaming says is correct, CoD: Ghosts is a steaming pile of Hitler's second coming. That being said, the last CoD game I played was MW2 so I don't really know... But I will say that birgirpall makes BF3 look damn fun. :) Trevor

    Bad vibes with shortround 92

How dare you sell us what we want! :tsk: He must have a future in politics. Thanks for the heads-up. Trevor

PSA: Linking directly to search results

Yeah... the couple times I've used this, I had work on the search terms before I got useful results. :p Trevor

PSA: Linking directly to search results

Also, that. I just thought this was less tacky than a "LMGTFY" type link. :) Trevor

PSA: Linking directly to search results

In my experience, giving people the right search terms is all they need to find the information they want. Coincidentally, I find myself often wanting to help new people out without spoon-feeding them. I've figured out a useful trick to link directly to a search result set. Using this URL as a...

    A Poll of Probable Futility

Using any quantitative measure really undermines the integrity of the measure. If you make it 100 rep, rep-whoring will ensue. If you make it 10 reviews / tutorials / etc., then we might see a drop in the quality of those. You could make it so that a potential newcomer has to be voted in by...

    Radiant Electronics is back!

Mid-range utility from a product priced at 40% of the cost of the cheapest "budget" LPM offering. Very happy to see this hitting the hands of hobbyists. :) Trevor

Radiant X4: A LPM for the masses at Illumination Supply!

Happy to see this LPM finally released! :D Also very happy to see Ellipsis running on LPM’s in the wild. When I initially had a prototype in June sometime, my task was to just tweak the firmware. In working with it, I realized I wanted to do something better than a tweak, and decided to port...

The oldest laser you own that still works?

Strictly oldest? Probably a Hughes Aircraft HeNe from... I don't even know when. Longest in my possession? A Metrologic HeNe a friend gave me four years ago. Trevor

Review: Vintage all-copper Bond build #1 (pic heavy)

Wow... that looks really good. All-copper custom hosts are great. All-copper vintage hosts are even better. :D Also, for anyone curious, I found one on ebay: Vintage Solid Copper Flash Light 1930'S | eBay Trevor

Have been asked to pertake in Laser trip wire project

This would probably work better with some off-the-shelf motion detectors. Eventually you're going to pound this square peg hard enough that the corners shear off and it goes into the round hole - but why not start with a round peg? :o Or an octagon at the very least...? Trevor

    A Poll of Probable Futility

I feel like tiptoeing doesn't really get anyone anywhere. Those who need to be called out need to be called out. :p Trevor

    Lightobject.com

It seems people have used them before for CO2 needs; here are some threads that reference that company: Laser Pointers - Search Forums I don't know if enough people here have dealt with them to call them "trusted," per se. Trevor

    WTS: Laserbee 2.5W

Re: WTS: Laserbee 2.5W (need repair) Good to see it's fixed! :) Trevor

    A Poll of Probable Futility

I don't think there needs to be a change, from an administrative standpoint. I think it's good the subject was brought up; even if a lot of people didn't pipe up, that thread still brought the 'issue' to LPF's collective attention. I think it will sort itself out. Trevor
