What else can you do with a Co2 rust removing laser?

Not a CO2 laser. Pumped fiber. I want one :-)

NUGM06 could be good for over 2W each ???

    Nice. Divergence?

    Super duper high powered lasers

10 to the 23rd power w/cm squared. Trying to imagine what a pulse like that would do to a hard target. Seems like it would generate a shock wave rather than melting or vaporizing anything.

    Blue laser 74W NUBM35 Portabl?

Seconded: you need more heat. Soldering directly to the batteries is a bit tricky. You want to minimize the amount of heat, especially when soldering to the positive terminal. Using a higher power iron or gun will allow you to make good solder joints in just a few seconds rather than slowly...

Setting a Driver Current with the Laser Diode Connected

Current in and out of any circuit or device will always be the same. The current (in amps) multiplied by the voltage drop (in volts) across the load = power consumed in watts. For our diodes we can calculate the total power input (V*I=W) and use that together with the measured output to...

New site live - please report any questions/issues here

That almost certainly is the issue. Trying to decide if I care :-)

Does Your Red Laser 301 Burn?

The "Laser 30x" toys are notoriously overspec most of the time. Sounds like you've got one that's in the 80-100mw range. Pretty typical for a red one.

Something new in the blue line.

    I want one in 488nm :-)

What driver to use for bdr-209?

A regular 9 volt battery won't last very long @ half an amp. Just sayin'.....

Setting a Driver Current with the Laser Diode Connected

Couple problems here. Where do you plan to measure the current? The measurement must be taken at the driver output. the leads from the driver to the diode are rarely long enough for a clamp meter (inductive). If you have to disconnect one leg of the diode to connect a DMM you would be better...

What's the smallest spot diameter at 2000m distance that $5000 will buy ?

An 8 inch newtonian telescope would do as a beam expander. ~$750 new retail for the optical tube assembly.

New toys for high power flashlights

Surplus store in my area had ferrite paint a couple years back. Markings indicated military origin. It disappeared quickly.

New toys for high power flashlights

That's a lotta die. Seriously though, you're right about the directionality of these. @ roughly 50 lumens/watt these aren't particularly efficient but you can get a really nice tight beam with just a cheap lens. Of course you need to get rid of almost 20 watts of heat somewhere which would...

New toys for high power flashlights

I'll take two of those 8x8s RC. I think that would fit in my taillight lenses on my car. Add a momentary contact switch and voila--no tailgaters!

my laser-related predictions of the future

Might be a race between gyrotron weapons in the hundreds of GHz and fiber lasers in the NIR.

    470nm 4W Laser Build

Acceptable trade-off for a tiny but mighty little package. Nice work!
