Any interest in a DL 589?

Full disclosure on the 589 I bought from Hap a year ago. I paid about $300 for it, and still felt I got a great deal. I think that anyone looking at this should realize what an unusual and precise device this is. I hope yours sells well. I know the one I have is certainly worth just about...

New to forums - Computer Science student interested in lasers

5mW is generally considered the limit of eye-safe output. Cheap lasers are often well above the power they claim (though you shouldn't ever get laser light in your eye if you take the right precautions). To burn something you would indeed need a higher power. Another thing to take in to...

New to forums - Computer Science student interested in lasers

Hey, Chris! Glad to see you here. You've come to the right place to learn. Also, you're lucky you like the 445nm range so much, because that's where the low $/mW sweet spot sits. So you've got that goin' for you, which is nice.

    Epic wavelengths for epic prices!

The fact that they are all the same price worries me. Surely such exotic objects aren't ALL the same value. Also the whole "10 times less than any other out there"... Edit: Just deposits on them so get the excite

Please check my laser pointer summary - did I get it all right?

They'll thread their lenses into your 12mm module, if you know what I mean :tinfoil:

    Enchanted Beams Thread

It gets warm quicker than you might expect. At about 9W of power going in to the module/driver, and only <1500mW out, you are going to be dumping a lot into it. I've found that three minutes would usually be too much of a duty cycle for it, and I mostly keep it much lower than that. Maybe in the...

    Enchanted Beams Thread

Nice pictures guys. I thought I'd share a couple of my own I took of my NDG7475. I put it in a jayrob maglight mod. It's a monster in brightness at at least 1300mW. Here it is compared to my 200mW PLP510-B1: It's brilliant at night and vibrant in the daytime. Here's that same shot...

    Sale thread/ Hosts/Heat Sinks/Focus adapters/lasers

Ooo, that's a snazzy new laser! You do good work with your focus knobs :D I have recently bought three hosts from him (reviews to come!) and have had no complaints through the buying process or in the quality of his machine work. Hope more people get your designs in their hands. They won't be...

    Donating to LPF

I just sent in my first donation today. I figured it had been too long and I've gotten too much from this rather niche forum to not help it out. Many donations of small amounts are probably more fruitful and easier on people, so please join me in what you can!

    Questions about Osram PLTB450B

There is no point in getting anything that you would be uncomfortable with. Or, in this case, what you factor in of your parents' opinion. There are still plenty of cool laser experiments to do without a multi-watt diode. Also, the brightness of green adds to its appeal per watt. Just be careful...

    Photobucket B@stards

As a replacement, how have people felt about imgur? I have used them to host on this site, but I don't know the politics of choosing an image hoster.

    Astral Driver - Buck, Boost, & Buck-Boost

I too would be interested in that. I've had an idea for a while to build a pen host where the switch at the end is clicky AND twisty. It could be a dim pointer, or be turned up.

    Questions about Osram PLTB450B

Assuming you mean the driver listed here, it is a "buck" type driver. That is, it will lower the voltage of the output until no more than the correct current is passing through the diode. This means that an input voltage higher than 4.6V is required to get regulated current. So yes, this would...

FS: Custom Laser Labels Available Again!

Re: FS: Custom Laser Warning Labels UPDATE I think it's time to label all the various builds I have. And at that price, it's hard to argue! I'll count up what I might need and hopefully put a few in to order. Thanks for being one of the people providing a useful service to our niche.

    FS: Sharp 502.6nm

Congrats on even finding one of these available, if you get it that is. They are definitely scarce these days. I'm glad I got mine while they were still available.

    4w 905nm diode?

Considering it is pulsed, the question becomes what percentage of the time it can remain on. If it is 4W, but only for 10ms every second, that makes it 40mW total output.

Almost made a really expensive really stupid mistake

Re: Made a really expensive really stupid mistake If anyone else has trouble with this, batteries are usually very attracted to a magnet. A well-secured chunk of neodymium-on-a-rope could get SOME movement on it.

    DTR Laser Shop

I have always received nothing but the best from DTR. Eight of the colors down there in my signature are modules from him. Not only is he an invaluable resource to the community, but he is a nice, stand up business guy!

    Cryptic laser build

It's the safety :D They have to all be on in a specific pattern for one laser to activate with the button, and another pattern for the other

Though it is harder to work with, I have a soft spot for copper. My Cypreus from Sinner is still going strong.
