Excimer KrF krypton fluoride 248nm laser color?

I've had hands on and "hands in" experience on a large KrF. At 248nm, lenses AR coated and mirrors AT coated for it still show 'some' fluorescence. The 800 mJ pulses ensures any imperfections on the optic, and any dopants in the optic break down or fluoresce with a deep violet color. There's a...

    808nm "lethal" supply

For the current shunt, I recommend using a couple of Vishay SR5s in parallel. They each handle up to 5W and are not very inductive since its just a metal strip. I use them quite a bit. http://www.vishay.com/docs/31067/sr.pdf Its good you've got the feedback loop in there, and some protection...

    808nm "lethal" supply

Hmm.... Can't figure out why there's 19V on the gate. That's quite a bit. That nearly to the point of literally punching through the oxide layer at the gate, and ruining the device. With a different MOSFET I'm certain you won't need so much voltage.

    808nm "lethal" supply

Well, lets start with the FET then. Assuming you're using an N-type MOS device, we'll need to start with a device with a threshold voltage which is fairly low -> ~1V on Vgs. The op amp must be able to hold this at minimum at the gate... blah blah blah Now we have to consider that so long as...

    Are my eyes broken?

On a parametric scale, it comes down to this. It is well documented. Ask any of the display/projection guys.

Think I may have found the most expensive laser!

Only trouble is, if they find out your lab is government funded, they will ping you with a doubled price because they know the government is footing the bill. Companies do it to NASA all the time.... :(

FS: Gas From The Cellar (prices reduced)

Re: FS: Gas From The Cellar I hope isn't a bad thing. I find myself more interested in the anemometer more than anything else. Such a good price!

Anyone tried a high amp pulsed output driver?

Yep. There are almost more high current pulsed designs out there than there are for CW. But for most of us here, a pulsed output with high peak power is generally not noticeable compared to a stable CW beam. With pulsed operation - there is the hard-to-ignore component of your laser becoming...

Think I may have found the most expensive laser!

This is typical for any non-mass produced piece of photonic equipment. And depending on the lab, and your research grants, $8k could be spare change to you. Trust me - it gets much much worse than this very quickly.

Look for me in the November edition of WIRED Magazine!!

Hey! Neat to see lasers getting a positive rep in the media! Thanks Drake! Nice work there!

    Super Excited for Next Semester

Classes tend to be math "intensive". Rigor almost implies no one wants to do it. :p Lab work tends to be fiddling with software until you think it works again, and then having to adjust hardware likewise, only to find that your software screwed things up again. Always a battle.

    405nm Laser with <100µm Focus

Well. We can consider if each of your PCBs will be the same thickness or not. I'm assuming your design illuminates the board from up top so its the PCBs top surface that needs to be a very constant distance away from the diode to maintain such a tight tolerance. Next, you can consider that...

    Introspective Question

I didn't use one.. I don't need a paper to tell me this when I've personally asked quite a few assholes about why their being assholes. It happens on a personal level however - as an intentional effort to try and connect with them. I don't just walk up to them an ask "Hey, why are you kind of an...

Open Source LPM: What interests you?

Plus there are some noise related advantages to using smd resistors over carbon comps. As long as the parts for the design are well specified, linked to, highly available and very accessible, something like a kit would not even be necessary. Also, might be neat to use uC sockets instead, so...

    Introspective Question

Or rather - learn to show them love so their error can be detected and possibly corrected. The latter is indeed a choice made- assholiness not a state which just 'happens' to someone. "Dealing" with them is not explicitly for your own good or self preservation. Doing this will likely turn you...

    Introspective Question

Just remember that everyone starts somewhere. No blame can be place for that starting place - but it could be placed on those that refuse to grow from there. Does it justify being rude to them? Are you assuming that it is always better to be more intelligent than someone else? Its simply not...
