Heading back to ROK for Xmas

Christmas in Seoul, Dec. 25th 2019 Jogyesa - Temple with new years lanterns ready for display. Xmas tree at a temple complete with penguins and a snowman... why not. The dharma wheel showing the 8 fold path. Sejong Daewang (Statue monument to Sejong the Great - the unifier...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

yes, I agree. I too was skeptical of a few alternative medicines in Korea until I tried them myself. I am one to be quite skeptical. My first introduction to alternative medicine was through the consumption of raw Ginseng, something I still have not forgotten. I was warned by the herbal...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

Well, frogs have been used for 3000-5000 years in this part of the world as medicine, specifically the Chamkaeguri ( also known as Pelophylax nigromaculatus or the dark/black spotted frog).. Their populations are closely monitored by the Korean Government due to habitat disruption caused by...

Pictures of Yonggungsa -- The name given means - Dragon Palace Temple 龍宮寺 This is the Dragon of the temple. An engraved lithograph poem at the temple... I didn't get a good look at the inscriptions. Oceanside, near to the Fisheries museum there is some improvised urban agriculture...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

Korea while modern in one way ( technologically advanced), is still very superstitious due to its agrarian roots. Rocks, trees, mountains and various objects have spirits, and one of the main reasons why many graveyards in Korea are a) in the mountains b) have lots of trees. While in Korea this...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

Kimchi takes a hell of a lot of work to make well! Every region has its own version. In Cheolla-do, Kimchi is made with raw oysters. Their Kimchi is called Kul-Kimchi. Another, version called Nabak-Kimchi is actually drinkable. Not red like what we see so often in the west. Before the 16th...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

After arriving in Busan, we then took the Bus to BEXCO convention and exhibition centre.. had lunch and then back on the bus to go to Haedong-Yonggungsa. ( the Dragon temple) Port of Busan. Busan harbour 5th busiest in the world, and largest port in N.E Asia. Arrived at Bus...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

ehm...... That's sounding more like Hongeo, not Kimchi. Kimchi definitely can get sort of pungent when it's closer to 2 months, but newer kimchi has almost no smell. The best Kimchi is always buried in the ground in an Onggi. Just a side note, Kimchi isn't restricted to napa cabbage, the...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

I am actually back in Canada now ( stated earlier) . I was only there for 3 weeks. Glad that I got to see my family again. Things were fine. I think the alarmism around the DPRK and ROK is quite unwarranted. I would be more concerned about the US starting a regional wide conflict in the...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

Yes, it was quite the trip. I just got in on the 29th 10:25am PST at YVR. So I have only really had 2 or so days to recover from jet lag. The flight coming back was cramped (typical Air Canada) but only around 8hrs 45 minutes of actual flying time. Not terrible. Tensions on the peninsula were...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

Yes, I'll be careful. The tensions this time around are elevated. Nothing out of the ordinary. More concerned about the weather and driving conditions. Heavy snow in the near future forecast. Already -11c / 12F in Seoul. Cold.

Random request: Help calculate the minimum power density needed to pop a black balloon

hmm, not a very scientific study. You've got to get more control of your variables. --- What wavelengths at what powers? Maybe listing 20 wavelengths of lasers from NIR to NUV and then show results over a range of power levels might yield better results? Documenting the testing conditions...

Heading back to ROK for Xmas

I am on my way back to S.Korea to deal with a family emergency for 3 weeks. While I am there I will be visiting the FABspace in Jongro, the electronics market (what's left of it) in Yongsan-gu, and few other electronic centric areas to inspect components. Should be interesting. I'll be doing...

    High Voltage Project!

I concur with Cyparagon here, 150Kv will jump between 15-16cm, which is beyond what you are outputting here. Damaging insulation will eventually lead to carbon tracking inside the ignition coil windings and eventual failure of the components by way of short to ground across the secondary...

    Ignition coil driver

One can make a pretty potent X-ray power supply with a ZVS driven MOT and a HV cascade circuit!

    Ignition coil driver

True, but he's only inputting around 10V after that isolation transformer. I have a video of around 24V and the ignition coil is doing closer to 60KV. One can also change the capacitor to be inline with the resonant frequency of the given transformer. I have also used these drivers on modified...

    Ignition coil driver

not entirely true.... ZVS drivers are used all the time on ignition coils without issue! In fact a modified version of the ZVS driver is used on commercial electronic SSICs. QAGAKgrwNKk

    Ignition coil driver

There is a way of doing a 2 wire config with a ZVS driver. This is referred to as a isolated input configuration and uses an isolation transformer that is built off a ferrite transformer core. you really don't need many turns. link below. ***I have done this before. I can tell you that...

    Ignition coil driver

Best to look at building a ZVS driver which is as simple as it can get. The 555 timer idea is nice, but won't allow for much current. the IRF640 can supplement the IFRP250 shown here in the diagram. Get the ferrite choke from an old PSU, and a decent sized capacitor and you're good to go...
