    Laser pointers in urban warfare

The scanner and pointers were prominent features of NBC Nightly News' evening broadcast 2 nights ago. They had Richard Engel positioned so that the laser projector image was just next to him behind his shoulder in the frame. Interesting way to protest, but I gotta say I think that showing...

    Laser pointers in urban warfare

Yeah I hope so! Don't need this to become the new protest method of choice..

    Laser pointers in urban warfare

Apologies if this has already been posted, I was shown it by a friend who said it was posted on Reddit (heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend who etc lol) and immediately thought of LPF (could be hella old or fake, it's the interwebz):

    Basic DPSSL analog help PLEASE....

What's the model of the laser? Depending on the configuration, you may be able to feed it 5V from it's own power supply. Otherwise any 5V source will work, even a 5VDC wall wart adapter if you have one. The analog input is voltage sensitive, so very little current need be supplied. With these...

Testing of the New 650nm/660nm 5W Diode.!

I've been away for a bit.. had a lot of developments happening that have kept me extremely busy. But I randomly noticed this thread and I decided I had to have a look.. it's really awesome that LPF is still among the first places that these experiments are taking place. I've always loved this...

Single longitudinal mode VS single transverse mode

Single transverse mode is the one that gives the smallest focal point. Single longitudinal mode has to do with the frequency (wavelength) of the laser, namely the standing waves in the cavity.

    Fans!

They make small squirrel-cages like these (and this link just happens to be relatively local to you): Blower - Squirrel Cage (12V) :: Fans :: Prototyping :: Welcome to Ocean Controls Here's some more: KP Surplus - Fans, Heatsinks & Cooling These move the most air of any plastic fans around...

    Beam size meaurements

I approve of this thread... nice post ARG. When I measure beam profile (cross-section), I first expand the beam with a telescope (even a magnifying glass works though) and observe the structure of the beam. Here's an example of a beam from a 1W CNI 532nm lab-style laser: You can see that...

I can vouch for Newegg, I've used them for years and still do occasionally..

    Computer processor

Here's a list of Micro Center locations: Store Locations | Micro Center If you live near one you're among the privileged few that have access to web-outlet pricing from a store that you can walk into.. You can order online from them too of course, but their selection is better in-store.

External pumping of a ex-pointer. Not exactly working.

Could be a combination of thermal lensing and TEM00 beam mode. TEM00 output has the lowest natural divergence of any mode regardless of the shape and structure of the cavity. Another factor is the distance between mirror coatings in the cavity. The longer the cavity, the lower the natural...

It's always wise to wait a year.

    Computer processor

You should be able to beat the single-core performance of this chip at nearly the same price point by going with a quad, but I can't remember if the K-10 based quads have turbo-boost. If they don't you should maybe still go with the 6-core Thubans.. with them when you're taxing the chip with a...

    Computer processor

only 8GB right now, DDR 1333. Just run of the mill Samsung sticks, nothing fancy, normal timings. No overclock anywhere in the system except my graphics card. When I upgraded this particular system I only upgraded the CPU and mobo from an Athlon FX-62 dual core setup. It cost me about $160 all...

    Computer processor

Picked up one of these recently.. 6 cores. Not the fastest clock speed, turbo-boosts to 3.2GHz.. all for 90 bucks US from Microcenter (only sold for in-store pickup otherwise I would have posted a link to their site). They can be found on ebay for similar cost... not quite as cheap as...

    27m X 3m laser show

^Spot on, the preferred method of generating laser imagery is an x,y setup using galvos/mirrors. ILD SOS is a utility that converts .svg files into laser display frames. Google it for more info. Search the forum for info on REKE projectors, they are among the most cost effective Chinese...

    27m X 3m laser show

Vector. Ishow is generally junk and it's output and usability reflect that so I wouldn't feel too bad about not being able to get it to perform to your standards. You can connect an ishow control setup to the very best of laser projectors and the output and overall usability will suffer as a...

I can try to dig something up over the next few days, been uber-busy with work lately so finding time even for minor hobby-related stuff has beem a challenge.

Game: Guess the mystery object !

Possibly the inside of a GM-20 or similar? Never had one apart but the shape seems about right..
