Measure Laser Beam profile with webcam/industrial cam & open source software

Hi All, Just a tip which might be interesting to some user here: I have been using "Open Beam Profiler for ImageJ" for quite a while, and it is quite good (sorry, I am still not allowed to post links, but google search should find the software easily. For those who do not know ImageJ, it is an...

What if I Don't Have an LPM?

If you need an LPM to know a laser is dangerous, then I think it is better to just not buy lasers at all... I think the main reason people that do not want to buy and LPM but do want to "measure" power is to perform a single measurement of their new toy, and evaluate if they have been ripped...

    Remember to exercise those argons!

My unit has the basic controls on the power supply itself. As far as I can see, this seem quite similar to what the controller is doing (assuming with controller you mean something like the "remote interface" in the picture below)

    Remember to exercise those argons!

Just to add another datapoint: after seeing this thread I also powered up mine, a cyonics 2201-10slsx with 15000 hours on it! (got it for free), It started immediately from the first pulse, and output powers were as follows after warming up: at min current: 0.814 mW at 6A: 3.81 mW at 8A: 8.13...

What if I Don't Have an LPM?

I fully agree with the points you made above. But an accuracy of 20-30% (which will typically be minus due to inefficient coupling and heat loss to the surrounding) is in my opinion still way more accurate than trying to estimate laser power based on how fast it will light a match or burn stuff...

What if I Don't Have an LPM?

Hi, I agree this one has for sure a good price/quality ratio, but still think many people find 350$ quite expensive., and wanted to describe a very low cost alternative (can be done with 15$ and some scrap materials when using a temperature sensor like this: "PT100 digital display LED digital...

What if I Don't Have an LPM?

Hi hope it is ok to post here as it is a sticky thread but quite old? For higher power lasers (>250mW) you should be able the measure the power reasonable accurate with a piece of aluminium and a temperature sensor (for example the thermocouple from your multimeter or some low cost temperature...

Greetings from a Belgium based laser enthusiast

Thanks, I am already reading lots of threads and also kicking myself I did not buy one of those 473nm Raman units (thread: B&W-tech Spectrometer & 473 module: Setup+Mods+Info) when they were available on Ebay...

Greetings from a Belgium based laser enthusiast

Thanks! So far I have been playing & will continue to play it safe. own professional good laser glasses for the wavelengths I own. The Q-switched laser will be fully enclosed with safety interlocked door switch.

Greetings from a Belgium based laser enthusiast

Hi All, Just "discovered" this forum while searching for info about DIY raman spectroscopy, and seeing all of the interesting contents here, I figured I should subscribe immediately! About me, I have been playing around with lasers and optics or quite a while. My main interest lies in...
