So i recieved a laser from lazerer today, shipping took a while but its from china so what can i expect. Its a 200mW red pointer, i expected it to be able to burn alot of things. At least black objects, but the diameter of the dot is pretty wide, i cant focus it, and when i pointed it at a black sticker on my computer it didnt do anything, my 400mW green burns better, but it still can BEARLY light a cigarette. I get my paycheck soon so if anyone can send me a link to a RELIABLE laser up to spec that could light a cigarette i would really appreceate it. Id say my price limit is 200$ but preffered below 150$.

thanks for the help guys!

Problably you did not focus the beam correctly or you did not held the object at the burning point..

200mW is strong enough to let things smoke and light a match but my findings with cigarettes are depending on the brand way harder to light then anything else..

Don't get mad at LAZERER's products which are good and don't live up to your expectations. I recommend you buy a 1W riffle or something which is within your budget..

greetings,

thanks ill look into it, my only hesitation is that id have to buy another pair of goggles for the wavelenght, but if the total is reasonable ill do it, and report my findings

You guys both need spelling lessons:whistle:

The laser needs to be properly focused in order to burn. Focused to infinity a 200mW red will not burn at all in my experience.

Maybe they need spelling lessons, but you need reading comprehension lessons.

OP says he can't focus it.

If the beam diameter is big and the laser isn't focusable, then forget about burning things, no matter the power of the laser.

Either OP has a very defective laser, or he is an idiot.

With one newer laser being the exception, all of the lazerer red lasers are focusable...

Also your last sentence is completely nonsense, it's the power density of the beam that matters, not how large or small the beam diameter is.

alright not a huge fan of the hostility on this, but i did have a total brain fart. what i thought was the focusing knob was actually the lens you screw off to replace it with other ones. There is a ring lower than that one, and it took some serious force to unlodge it, but once i was able to it focuses really well and can deffinetly burn stuff. (yes i spelled that wrong, we can move on) The reason i thought the first ring was the focusing ring is because that it how it is on my other laser, and that one also comes off, unlike the one on my new 635nm laser.

and yes it is very very difficult to light a cigarette with a laser, you have to inhale on it while aiming at something you cant fully see, so its pretty hard.

thanks for the help guys, kinda my error, i just sorta freaked out a bit cuz ive been waiting on this laser for weeks, and i bought it with sole purpose of burning things, where i bought my other laser soley for pointing and seeing the beam.

tglad you figured out the hanks for the help guys, kinda my error, i just sorta freaked out a bit cuz ive been waiting on this laser for weeks, and i bought it with sole purpose of burning things, where i bought my other laser soley for pointing and seeing the beam.

Glad you figured out the focus. Unfortunately, that's all ~200mW is going to do,... smolder cigs. You should get a 1W blue if you want to light smokes.
Try to exchange it at lazerer for credit towards the blue 445nm rifle. That thing will surely light cigs.

Pointing out spelling mistakes was more of a joke, although it is a bit of a pet peeve of mine:p

thanks everyone for the help and no problem with calling me an idiot, i would have done the same in the scenario. haha its incredible how polite everyone is here as oppose to the rest of the internet.

I have an old host from jayrob on a build that never worked out, so i plan on buying a blue 1W module from survival and just putting it in there. It comes soldered onto the pill with the driver inside so there literally is no soldering required. Sooo siked.

Am I the only one who thinks its a bit unsafe to light anything in their mouth with a laser ? Double so without glasses aswell.
