Hey Guys! I am thinking about selling completely assembled Trinities! I just wanted to make this feeler to see who would be interested so I know how many to keep around...

Re: FEELER: The Trinity Kit (Host, Heatsinks, & Driver)

It's a very cool idea, and I can't wait to see what your finished build looks like... but as a kit it would be kind of pricey.

You would probably sell a few fully assembled lasers on here very quickly though;)

Ok I'll add that as an option :) Thanks...

EDIT: I'm only going to sell completely assembled Trinities...

I should elaborate I guess. Basically I think as a kit this is destined to failure.

Simply because the tk45 is a pretty nice light to begin with, and is not cheap.

Add in the prices of say three a140's, three flex drives, the price of heatsinks/time and you're looking at a build kit that's going to be VERY expensive.

VERY cool, but also very expensive.

If you can find a knockoff for the tk45 though... that would help things along. I've thought about a three ld build to mimic the predator laser... IIRC Dave and another member actually put one together, but those were relatively move power builds.

Actually the custom driver that JohnyZ is making me will have a blue, red, and green driver built in so thats all you need. Also it will have 3 individual pots and reprogrammable modes so you select the current for each diode/module and also add in custom modes whenever you want :)

you could probably get some things cheaper. 40$ DTR diode, if you found a knock off host, it would lower it ALOT, ive seen some green modules sell for 90, i bought 2 glass lenses for 20 :p what about the builders fee ;)

still pretty vague about the prices :p pretty hard to build, and expensive parts.. all lenses are g-1 lenses, custom made heat sinks, flashlight it self is around 130, three diodes, 4 batteries, modified battery holder, time spent making the build, driver, im sure missing somethings. my guess is 600? maybe 700? i might be way off.

It should be around $500... also I will not be selling these with G-1 lenses as they are not regularly available like the Aixiz Glass lenses... if anybody wants G-1 lenses I can just send them the laser with no lenses and they can just order them from Jayrob :)

I actually thinking about having Ehgemus make me a custom host like the Fenix Tk-45... I'm gonna go pm Ehgemus right now. Hopefully thats something he could do as I think I could get them cheaper than $130 from Ehgemus :)

that would be awesome :) if he could make a polished host, im in :D

I just sent him a pm but he's offline right now :( When Ehgemus responds to my pm I will let you guys no if its a yes or no on the Ehgemus 3 Headed Host (Maybe we could call the host Cerberus) If you don't know what Cerberus is I attached a link...

Personally I would have gone with chimera since the build you're proposing can support multiple configurations:eg:

the custom driver is 100$?!?!
Thats seems a bit high.
I know it takes time to make these and all but still.
wow.
I wish they still made the triple 18650 hosts.

The driver's price isn't set in stone yet because it's still in development and we don't know how much components and stuff will cost. I just put $100 as a worst case scenario... it should be more in the proice range of $80-$90. Unfortunately $80 is still kinda high, but if you add up all the man hours it will take to design, test, and perfect this driver it comes out about even. Not to mention three flexdrive v5's would be roughly $90 and this driver is reprogrammable with an Atmega168 and has three seperate types of drivers for three different color lasers.

Very creative! Maybe I will hold a contest to see who can come up with the best name, but lets not get ahead of ourselves as I don't even know if Ehgemus can make it yet.

hmm well i know with my new st drive boards arriving monday, they will be very usefull.
They have a pwm input, and an secondary logic on.
This is nice because you can have a tail switch and then a side click switch and wont burn it out.
Also the PWM is nice as i can use it just like TTL.
All i would need is a small micro chip with the program and i could have a driver build for less than a few bucks in material cost.
If you can design the processor using ST micro chips i can get them very cheap if not free.
I have the drivers i would just need something with the program to run to them.

You can't really charge $80 for a laser diode. You just can't. It's probably going to work out to be $10-20 in parts AT MOST, so you can't really go about charging $60+ for man hours - how many hours do you think went into this, probably 10? Maybe 20? You can charge whatever you want, I suppose, but NO ONE will buy a driver for that much unless it's a one-off thing. Once you start producing, you can't really be charging that.
