very cool i was on ebay and bought up alot of crystal balls and other things they make great patters if you put them on a slow rpm motor about .5-1rpm they are great!
 
Wow, cool! What type of gemstone is that ... amethyst? sapphire? When my safety glasses arrive, I'm planning on experimenting with lasers and diamond :)

I bought a few of the cubic zirconias off of fleabay, an 18mm round cut makes the most interesting display but a 14mm trillion cut cz looks pretty cool too.
I was going to post a thread about it but I need goggles before I take pics using a 445.
Before lecturing on safety, I was using a 1-3mW 405nm pen.
*if you are going to try this yourself (DO IT!) you NEEEEED quality goggles, the refractions/reflections off of the stone WILL MAKE BLIND SPOTS!

to some people who bought casio parts from me i sent some things like this. they were plastic but still made cool patterns
Swarovski Crystal are also great for this stuff
