My $2.95 Bluray laser pointer!

I just got my $2.95 laser from motel268 on ebay. I just told him I wasn't going to accept a refund and that I wasn't buying his stories and he finally agreed to send it. It looks decent, better than I was expecting. I really haven't measured divergence or anything yet and I don't have a power meter to test power but I would assume that it is over 5mW by a little bit. The beam is really nice, no line-like output that I've grown used to with diode lasers. Anyway, here are the pics!

Here is how it was packaged, it was split in half and wrapped in bubble wrap. The envelope is the "bubble wrap type" too.

It was marked as laser pointer, I guess I'm lucky they didn't check it!

There is a small scratch on the silver aperture ring, but its not too noticeable.

Blue!!

See how nice the dot looks?

Overall I am really happy with this thing so far, I'll keep you all posted if it breaks or starts acting funny. I would defiantly pay $10-12 for one of these again, and I would recommend them to any bluray noobies like myself :D

I've got about 10 of those and they all measure over 30mW and one
or two went near 40mW..
BTW... you should get a Kenometer... it's aways good to know the
power of your lasers... at least for safety's sake...

I'm confused. How are they selling these for that cheap? I thought blue ray lasers were all over $300?

They are NOT that cheap... They made a mistake when listing them on eBay...
They actually cost $7.00 more..

You wrote the laser is "Blue" and in the picture the dot appears to be really blue.
But... Is it more blue than violet purple?

It is a standard 405nm violet bluray laser. It looks blue on some surfaces but it is actually purple. It defiantly doesn't look blue in person on a non fluorescing surface.

I'll make you a great deal on one!!
»Custom made dark purple-ish blue anodised aluminium (looks almost black in dim lighting)
»Lithium-ion battery with charger
»Glow dust cap (+ black one too)
»High efficiency FlexDrive (self-regulating power control circuit)

Available in several sizes, from keychain (but still way powerful) to large flashlight like size.

Ok I'm joking.... kinda. Anyway you can get low power Blu-rays for a good bit less then $300 these days.

Sure, if you want several hunderd mW's of violet, but these are simple mass
produced 5mW lasers, not the one of a kind buring beasts made by some of
the members here.

Before you buy that laser in your sig CAM, you should look at the CNI group buy. You can get a 150mW green spartan for the same price, and CNIs are always up to spec and usually over. Also they all come with an IR filter and it is undoubtedly in there. It would probably be stronger, with better divergence, a longer duty cycle, narrower beam, and less ugly safety features. Not to mention its a CNI wihich is top of the line as far as lasers go.

Just so you know...
