I say go for it. Its unused, and has a 14 day warranty. Just hook up a 20-28v wall wart to the PSU hook up the thing and start it up! I do not even think you will need a ballast resistor.

Looks like a good find.

the 05-LHR-121 is a 2.5 mW tube - 632.8nm and the power supplu is a nice 2.4kV 5mA unit, with the tube casing and a complete uncut alden plug... Not a bad little laser, price is fair. It's a complete kit that only needs a 24vdc power supply, like a wall wart or a bench supply. And it's new.

Robert

Thanks for the info, the pic says <5mw, but 2.5 mw still seems good for the price.

The alden plug IIRC has the ballast resistor within it. You can power the laser with any 110v HeNe laser PS with the same/close output.(2400vdc @5.25A) and sell that one on ebay-- look at this: Melles Griot HeNe Gas Laser 05-LHP-121 w/ Power Supply - eBay (item 390111294415 end time Apr-25-10 16:46:03 PDT) for a comparison. Not that hard or expensive to come up with a 20-28 vdc 1.25A PS to power the PS-pita -but not much IMO. HeNe lasers are beautiful- I have that one(i think)--Hz btw --not all wallwarts are regulated and they rarely output exactly whats on the label - fyi.

The resistor is part of the housing/wiring. It is NOT part of the Alden.

Peace,
dave

I have three 13.8 volt 6amp power supply designed for running car devices from your 110ac. Two of these in series would be good to power that power supply correct?

'The resistor is part of the housing/wiring. It is NOT part of the Alden.

Peace,
dave ' ---------- thanks dave-- I did not know that.( the reason I put IIRC) So is it true to say that if a laser and PS have alden plugs a ballast resistor is not needed?===len

NP. We often have to replace the Alden in a used HeNe. I just wanted to make sure that people knew that they still needed to make sure that the resistor is there and good even with a new Alden ;)

Peace,
dave.

I bought that exact item (same model, pic, everything) from the same seller (see my sig to take it apart :D) and I bought this (see link below) to power the HeNe PSU and it works great. Outputs 24V 2.5A... that PSU requires 24V and 1.5A IIRC. All you have to do is cut off the part that plugs into laptop normally and this exposes a (+) and (-) lead. Hook it up to the HeNe PSU and you're good to go. 12.60 shipped!

Definately worth the price BTW (laser).

AC ADAPTOR Powerbook G4 24.5V 2.65A 65W for apple Mac - eBay (item 180396558991 end time Apr-09-10 20:29:51 PDT)

Here is a pic of the disassembled HeNe you are looking at powered by the ac adapter in the link i provided (crappy iPhone pics sorry see my disassembly tut for better pics):

Thanks +Rep, I really like hearing that someone else bought from that seller, and that is a good tip. I am going to leave it assembled though. What do you think of the color?

Looks good its a regular old red (632.8nm) :D wait till you see the beam projected on a wall really far away. Perfectly circular.

Lol, I was hoping for a red-orange, but I guess I should have a gas laser anyway...

What is the divergence like on yours? Also, would it make a nice laser for a Spiro ?
