Re: NEW Viasho Group buy #1

Keep in mind your rpl is the silver, this one is the black. Also yours has better specified divergence. Amongst othe subtle differences that make the RPL an RPL and as someone already pointed out this is a peak measurement. I'm not saying this isn't a good deal I'm just saying you may want to think that idea over a bit. Maybe even get Jack's opinion. He wouldn't lead you down the wrong direction.

Good advice Luke, and yes I gave him an honest opinion.

... ...for the price.. they are the best deal i have seen. but now i don't have a job... :( and i am not gonna going to spend so much money... i will do it when i work........ :)

just a curiosity..... the o-like handheld laser are the same laser from viasho?.. i noticed that the unit from the goup buy have a 2watt diode....the same of olike.... and if i remember correctly... they seems equal in the exterior aspect.

but at this price... i trust more in viasho quality.... of course. but could be nice to know if olike sell... unlucked unit with worse divergence.... ecc....

Re: NEW Viasho Group buy #1

There is no guarantee of sustained or average output above a certain level.
Some may have average / sustained output power above their rating and others below.
Before they are shipped to customers they will be checked for peak power output, those which don't reach the rated value will not go to customers, so everyone is guaranteed that they get a laser with peak output equal to or above the rated value.

Right, thats clear then... perhaps its not for me. I prefer something stable, even if its say 350 mW continous over a laser that blasts out 500 mW for a few seconds and then tapers off to 300.

Re: NEW Viasho Group buy #1

i don't understand 2 things.....
in viasho site i read:

Beam Divergence (full angle, mrad) 1.2±0.2
....and not 1.4mrad...

and...Power Stability (RMS, over 1 hours)<15%

how is possible 1 hour??? duty cycle is 3 minutes on optotronics site. i think it is a viasho site error... is impossible to keep on 1 hour this laser.... without break it

Re: NEW Viasho Group buy #1

Just put in my order for the 500mW Viasho yesterday. We'll soon see how they will perform with Jack's extensive testing.

The spec on these is < 1.4mrad the "<" means "less than". Maybe I should have said less than or equal to to 1.4 mrad.

It is really the same thing as 1.2±0.2 as 1.2 + .2 =1.4. It's really a marketing thing as most people see the 1.2mrad and ignore the ±0.2; but really it means it can be anywhere from 1.0mrad to 1.4mrad, but the reality is most will be closer to the upper limit.

About the stability, 15% even over a 10 minute period would be pushing it. I've only come across a handfull of RPL systems that are that stable and the 1 hour rms???? like you said they are not supposed to exceed their duty cycle and if they could a fully charged 2600mahr cell would be fully depleted after about 35 mintutes or so.

Re: NEW Viasho Group buy #1

90 day warranty through Viasho?
Well if you have to send it back AFTER the warranty and this means sending it back to China on YOUR dime PLUS repair costs just one time could easily chew the difference between this and an RPL. Jack correct me if I'm wrong with this assumption...

Even IN warranty service going back to China. You're looking at $50 to ship w/insurance. Not sure if they cover return shipping.

I know in the past dealing with CNI directly it was a pain in the ass, customs, delays, you name it! I think I wove a tapestry of obscenities so thick it floated as a cloud all they way over to Changchun.

It would seem that a few guys with the knowledge, the right tools and some workspace could make a nice living (well, side business) and a lot of friends with a stateside laser shop.

Hey, Jack indicated this in the initial post:
If you have any questions, use our contact us form on the website ..
Here: http://www.optotronics.com/contact.php
He is a concientious guy, albeit somewhat busy. I'm sure he'll answer your questions.

The date 2/5/2010 is Feb 5 (common US date format).

Re: NEW Viasho Group buy #1

We had originally planned on placing the GB order on Feb. 5th.
It's been pretty popular for 1st group buy, so were going to go ahead and place our order on Feb. 3rd.
This will allow time to complete the build and have them sent to us before the Chinese new year holiday.
If anyone else wants to get in on this group buy, place your order before 7:00pm on Wednesday. Our 2nd group buy will start right after our 1st is completed, with an expected order placement date around March 1st.

Re: NEW Viasho Group buy #1

UPDATE:
We were informed that our current group buy order will be completed and sent to us before the upcoming Chinese New Year holiday which begins on the 11th, so it won't be as long a wait as was expected. Should have them soon. Estimated delivery date to your door is around the 19th give or take a day.

The next group buy starts now, I just need to update the date of the next order placement on the webpage.
