Hello everyone! I'm xSpazyKlown0!

I've finally decided to create an account after spying for advice on these forums for many countless days. I have been a laser enthusiast for about 3 years now. I just ordered my first POWERFUL laser around 15 minutes ago.

While you guys welcome me, I would like to ask a question in the meantime.
I just ordered an O-like 200mW Red Laser (after much research and realizing that a Viper 125mW is better but more expensive). I was wondering if the 200mW red laser has an IR filter. I'll do some more seraching around but if it doesn't have an IR filter then do I have to have something else in addition to the special safety goggles?

Here's the link to the laser I just bought: New style waterproof red laser 200mW£*>5~200mw Red laser pointer£*>Laser&lighting products£*>www.0-like.com

I'm glad to be a part of the community! Happy Holidays everyone! :san:

Not too be rude, but if you've really been a laser enthusiast 'for about 3 years' you would know that a red diode laser wouldn't need an IR filter, as it's not pumped by an infrared diode, like green and blue lasers are (well, most of them are, but new revelations have brought blue and green diodes to reality). Welcome to the forum.

What I meant by laser enthusiast is that I've always wanted to buy a lase, was obsessed with them, and wanted to build one. I have mainly been looking at green lasers, but now I'm deciding to buy a red laser because it's cheaper. I know a lot less regarding red lasers than I do about green lasers.

Any recommendations on safety goggles?

And thanks for the welcome :)

Ah, okay then, that's a tad different. DragonLasers has the cheapest goggles (I think, it might be OEM Lasers), but the shippings expensive.

Welcome to LPF!. As mentioned, a diode based red laser, such as the 200mW you are discussing, has no IR component to filter out. You'll need red laser safety goggles, do a forum search on this topic. Diode Pumped Solid State (DPSS) lasers need an IR filter because these lasers are pumped by a powerful IR diode, and some of the IR can leak through the DPSS crystal set and exit the laser. If you want to get into building lasers, you'll find all the info needed right here on the forum.

@eledaydek - Welcome ! As a new member, you could have started your own welcome thread if you'd wanted to.

Welcome, I'm new here as well. Tell me how that goes with your 200mW red. I was looking at buying one similar to that earlier today, I got a 150mW green and I want more power! :D

Thanks roosl.

Woodofcville, I should get my laser soon so I will write up a proper review on it.
I'm debating whether or not I should buy some more reliable rechargeable 18650 lithium batteries rather than using the chinese ones for my laser. I think I will buy some new ones. Anyone know of any American 18650 lithium rechargeable batteries or at least any that are more reliable? Any ideas?
Are there different voltages for the 18650 lithium battery? I'm wondering because I don't want to get batteries with the wrong voltage.

Careful, there is a link in that 'h'. Looks unsafe, Googling brought up bunch of posts that are the exact same as this. clicky

EDIT: I removed the link in the 'h' in my quote, but bolded it. Don't click it.

hehe, yeah, welcome posts are free haha

Btw, I recomend you get the 50mW green pen from dealextreme to complete your collection. I started with this combination and I have to say it's the best for a starter.

oh, welcome!

Yours,
Albert

One of my favorites guys on the forum.
I don't feel like buying from DX. I don't like their products too much.

LarryDFW sells Sanyo 18650 batteries, and Tenergy has some good ones as well.

Edit: I accidently clicked it, my touchpad's incredibly sensitive, it returned a could not locate server page in Opera
