Re: FS: Key Chain CR2 Kit! - SCHWEET!

I have seen that kit I love it also but I don't think I have any means of modifying a o-like module to be short enough to fit in the C3. I say that because my dad has a friend that is a retired tool and dye maker who has a lathe but I'm haven't talked to him a lot but I don't know maybe I need to talk to him. I know he can do it bc he said he had a tollerance when he worked of like 50/millonths or something unbelievibly small. I may get one tho just need to sell more tritium keychains and cubes :) Its too bad the 200mW modules are too long bc I already have a 50mW green and I want MOORRRR POWWWAAAARRRRR!!! lol

I hear you about the desire for 'more power'! I'm pretty sure you will still like the sweet little host even with 50 or 60mW's. Because I do. It's my favorite little greenie!

It's just because it is so small (easy to carry), and the stainless steel is such a nice finish and quality. It uses the same battery as the Key chain CR2!

Here it is next to the Key Chain CR2...

Got to love it! :D http://laserpointerforums.com/f39/fs-mini-green-kit-schweet-42338.html

About the module modification, it is not hard. It is nice if you have a lathe, but if your careful, you can even use a hack saw!

OMG that is small!!! You are very tempting Jay but I need to calm down on the buying for now at least may be in the near future. :yh: And thanks for the pic it really shows the size sense I have the CR2 kit!! I cant wait..! And I will talk to my friend and see if I can use his lathe if not I will be very careful and use a hacksaw. I was looking at mini lathes and man they are expensive $600 is alot for me I would love to have one tho.

Re: FS: Key Chain CR2 Kit! - SCHWEET!

Yeah man... I really got a steal on mine...

I found it at the flee market. It was all in parts - in boxes. My wife tried to talk me out of it, but I begged and offered to buy her something in return. :)

I paid $250, not knowing for sure if the motor even worked. Just trusted the guy from talking to him.

I had to go on-line and call a couple of people to learn how to properly wire a reversible motor and switch.

But that little antique Atlas/Craftsman lathe was in excellent condition! It sat in my garage for probably 10 years before I started really using it though! Lol...

Glad I kept it! I've been using it every day now...

Wow Jay, very nice!

It's just as short as your other host, only thicker.. Great find!

I've been looking for a keychain host that could handle more battery capacity for a long time now.

This thing looks sweet!

Thanks Igor! :thanks:

Yes, you wouldn't believe how sweet it is.

The perfect tiny host! Tiny metal tail button, heavy feel too! Not thin and cheap feeling...

I will have to agree with Jay this thing is SOLID. The tail clicky is pretty unique also, no way you will accidentally turn it on lol.

I'm sure i will Jay, and i'll get one as soon as i can, unfortunatelly a payment i was expecting did not arrive today, so i'll have to order it another day. :(

But i will order one of these kits, as soon as my PP fills up a bit again! With an EZ focus adaptor, because i think it really fits beautifully!

Is it a different diameter than the Kryton adaptors?

Re: FS: Key Chain CR2 Kit! - SCHWEET!

Yes, the EzFocus adapter is much different in size...

The Kryton Groove adapter is 24.5mm,

The Kryton smooth is 23mm,

And this Key Chain CR2 EzFocus adapter is only 17.5mm in diameter.

Perfect match for the knurled host! :)

However, I should mention that this smaller EzFocus adapter is designed to glue onto the AixiZ focus ring, just like my Pocket Mini EzFocus adapter.

And because of that, the lens will matter. (for the gap between the host and the adapter at focus)

I have my measurements designed for a perfect fit using my 405-G-1 glass lens modification with the module positioned perfectly flush with the heatsink face.

There is room for adjustment of the module position in the Pocket Mini, and maybe just a little room in this build, but VERY little room to go farther into the host. Of course, you can move the module position out farther with no problem at all.

Just thought I would point this out if you want an EzFocus adapter...

Re: FS: Key Chain CR2 Kit! - SCHWEET!

I see..

So it doesn't just stick on the focusing nut like the Kryton Groove EZ-Focus adaptor you sent me?

Hmm, i'll have to think about this a bit... Or maybe order the adaptor later...

Re: FS: Key Chain CR2 Kit! - SCHWEET!

Yeah... The Kryton is larger in diameter, so the mounting can use an o-ring, which allows some movement where the AixiZ focus ring meets the o-ring. This allows the gap between the back of the EzFocus adapter and the host, to kind of 'automatically' adjust.

But with the smaller diameter hosts, like my Pocket Mini, and this new Key Chain CR2 host, there is not room for the o-ring style mounting.

Personally, I like the glued on style much better! A more solid feel. But then it must fit perfectly, and the lens you are using, will make all the difference in how deep I need to make the mounting area that glues onto the focus ring so that it will be just right at focus.

Leaving just a minimal gap between the EzFocus adapter, and the host. So that you can still have a little room for long distance focus if you want, but not be unsightly.

P.S. This style of mounting (glued on), only gets glued to the AixiZ focus ring. So you can still remove the EzFocus Adapter, and just put another AixiZ focus ring on the lens if you want to try the lens in a different build...

Re: FS: Key Chain CR2 Kit! - SCHWEET!

I see...

Otherwise, have you ever tried the tail-cap method of mounting a focusing adaptor on a focusing ring?

It works beautifully and occupies less diameter than an o-ring. Especially if you removed the rim, like you do with your Keychain builds...

Might even fit on here, without requiring glue?
