Well the first laser from rayfoss was way out of focus. I would point it a a flat black item. Using the focus ring to change the diameter . I could never get it to a nice small point. Only from big to real big. No mater how close or far I was.
With this one I was able to get it to focus to a nice small point. But only close up about 2 feet.

But now starting last night the my second night with the laser it began mod hopping. Now today the mod hopping has gotten so bad that the laser is unusable.
Within just a few seconds the beam drops an practically splits in two.
When it does this in picks up so much scatter. That it becomes one huge blob.
Since the beam is no longer being focused out the very center of the lens it picks up many small imperfections in the glass. And looks very ugly:cryyy:

Sorry but I don't know what to do.
I don't know if I should even bother with trying to get a exchange again.

;( ;( ..... bad luck. sise told me that she dos not sell this laser because it is unstable.. NOW... i can UNDERSTAND why she told me this.

this laser could peak aso 230... 220.... and could be a REAL GOOD LASER... in SOME cases. but.. often.. it has a mode hope.. not stable power. damnation. if it was stable...it is one of the best style/price/quality/power laser

Well now I just broke the laser. I took it apart.
I was going to see if it had a adjustable pot. I was going to decrease the power
So it would not mod hop as quickly.

Any way when I went to screw the head back down. Their was a spacer that was in between the head and laser module. It acted like a stop. To prevent the head from screwing down to far. Since I didn't have it up far enough. The head went down to far and cracked the lens. on the actual laser modual.:cryyy:

That's really unfortunate! I hope you will be able to find a replacement lens to fit in the module - might still be worth it as long as the pump and crystals are in good order and alignment.

The modehopping thing sounds a bit worrysome though, especially since it happened only some time after you've been using the laser.

Do you have personal ties with rayfoss?

Hmmm 1.5 mrad doesn't sound all too good from skylasers considering optotronics sometimes has .8mrad

Well rayfoss just offered to help me out. They would have fixed it but I broke it. So they offered me a good deal on a 200mW replacement module. For a fixit yourself deal. Or for a small labor charge to fix it for me.
I will have to wait before I do anything. I just bought a blue ray pointer from RA_pierce.

I would like to say rayfoss.com has some great costumer service.
It's very rare to see this kind of service.

Please make some pictures of that module!
Which kind of IR diode is it using (9mm ?) ?
And please try to find out with how much current the diode is feeded!
Thank you

however.. i heard some laser from rayfoos get broken.... mmm.... why? are they bad quality?

they only got broken in 3 reasons..

one.. their modules has been designed to only get an input of 3.0v using acr123a battery.. or a 2 AA or AAA battery. the problem is, their engineer overlooked that. after discussing with faona those things.. she informed the engineer.

two, wrong handling, sometimes we as users forget that some modules require a short duty cycle, correct battery polarity and some operating things.

three, gets broken during the shipping, sometimes packages labeled such as gift items, free items, flashlight gift, and so on, can get damaged because they are not issured or the sender did not declare the value of that package to evade customs. shipping to countries with high custom security can sometimes damage the packge, here in our country even if you declare it as
1Watt green laser, since there is no restrcition, customs will allow it.

rpaloalto;

Concerning the broken module.

I am trying to fit a better lens system to various green modules.

I would be willing to offer you something for the broken module.

Actually I kept it. I just used the lens from My cheap new wish laser from DX.
Both modules used glue to adhere the lens to the tip of the module. Their were a few scratches in the lens I used so their was still allot of scatter.

I decided to order a second one from rayfoss. Just got it a few days ago. The divergence is relly bad on this one. Just shining it across the street the dot becomes a very big oblong oval:(:(:(
