Any comparison with an actual lens meant for good divergence like a g8? Comparing it with a G2 is like comparing a sword to a knife, try to cut garlic with a sword.

I may be mistaken, but doesn't a larger dia lens inherently offer better divergence with a larger output beam?

The lens looks like the output of those "fat beam" laser modules on ebay. Could be completely wrong though.

Nah, not really since the g2 is made as a high efficiency extremely short focal length lens the beam at range is shit

To add on to Steve's note that the longer focal length inherently provides better divergence, it's also important that the diameter of the lens is large enough to capture the laser output.
A longer focal length lens must be positioned father from the light source in order to produce a parallel beam (approx. the same distance as the focal length).
The G2 is a short focal length aspheric lens which is able to achieve higher transmission than some other common collimators because it can be positioned close to the laser diode and capture all of the light. The aspheric design reduces spherical aberration, so offers additional improvements over simple plano-convex designs when it comes to beam profile and the focused spot size.
Of course the drawback is higher divergence as a function of the small beam diameter which isn't a problem for single mode laser diodes but is very apparent with high power diodes that have inherently lage divergence angles.

Here are some beamshots comparing G8 vs G9T.

The G8 seems more "thin" due to it's small diameter it is clipping some light on high divergent laser diode.

The G9T is a bigger diameter lens allowing more light to be captured while maintaining a smaller "dot" at close range (just like a G2 lens) and a really good beam profile at far distance (unlike G2 lens).

On the power side the G9T is slightly superior to G8.

Could you compare the G8 and the G9t lenses at a distance of say, 3 meters.. showing the spot size at that distance? Also where are you getting the larger AIXIZ modules for this lens and where are you finding the lens itself? I cannot find the larger AIXIZ module nor the G9t lens when searching for them.
