Hello guys.

I am looking for a powerful laser than can be seen from a distance of no more than 1800 feet.

Let me tell you why I want the laser and the purpose. I like to go to EDM festivals and sometimes finding friends is a pain in the ass even if we have a set location to meet at. Service is usually shit and maybe a text will go through. I want laser that will allow me to shoot a beam up in the sky. Like almost a mega tall totem pole. Of course I’d make sure it’s not being pointed at a plane. But the idea is to shoot the beam up for a mine or two to help my friends know where I am in a crowd of thousands.

What’s out there that would satisfy this need

while this is a cool idea, it would be extremely unsafe to shine a powerful laser into the sky especially around a crowd of people who dont have eye protection, the people surrounding you would absolutely look at where the light is being emmitted from and you could be held responsible for any injuries. Id recommend getting a walkie talkie or using a very low power laser. Id hate to see you get into a pinch.

Green color is most bright and visible, maybe this laser in output 1Wt or 1.5 Wt green 525 nm can help, but it's so expensive
Human eyes best to see 550 nm in the night, green 525 is closest to this, probably you also can show the beam for your friends
But you need to be careful with planes

Yeah, 1 watt of green is impressive. But IMNSHO it's grossly irresponsible to reccomend a 1 watt laser to a noob. If the OP wants to be found in a crowd how about something a little safer? One of the LEP flashlights should do nicely; very tight beam, stupid bright. And a color filter can be placed over the business end to give a beam of almost any desired color. And no one loses an eye ;-)

I'm a noob too 😅 i hope he will not direct the laser into the eyes and nobody don't lose their eyes. Just want to help him find his friends

I don't assume the OP is the special kind of malicious it takes to deliberately aim an instant eye damage beam towards people's faces. But at the same time I don't assume they're genuinely aware, as an admitted noob, of just how carefully they need to handle a full watt of laser. A stray reflection carrying just a fraction of the full beam's power can seriously ruin someone's life. That's why you'll hear so many here talk about handling their lasers with the same care they use when handling firearms. A one watt laser and a gun are both devices that can shatter a life in less time than it takes to blink.

I can relate to the OP's dilemma (20 year veteran of the Oregon Country Fair) but there are other means besides high power lasers that would be much safer, especially in a festival crowd. You might be able to frak up your retinas with an LEP flashlight, but I bet you'd have to try a lot harder.

Consider using a good flashlight.
Ya can’t permanently damage your eyes or anyone around you with it.
And your friends could definitely see it to find you.
