POLL - Close the politics thread?

This thread was initially created by Curtis Oliver for the reason stated "I was in two minds on whether this thread was a good idea to create.
But as i'm seeing members here getting into political arguments and other debates on various threads.
I thought it would be a good idea to create a platform to do so, without clogging up the forum."
At one point in the forum a lot of members were bickering all over the place. This isn't the case anymore and hasn't been for a good while, a few years actually I think so right now it's just the same posts after posts.
Honestly it's a bit of a headache and it no longer serves a real purpose nowadays but instead of just outright closing it this poll is created to get the opinion of you guys before any decision is made.

We'll see how it goes. It's stressful for me because I have to read every post on this forum. If we had an active team I would be okay with it... I just wish people would actually debate rather than insult each other. It hasn't been much for debating but as a place to "relieve stress".
IMO this is a laser/hobbyist forum not a mental health clinic.
If people need a thread to vent their frustrations in life then I would suggest they get professional help instead. The thread has no place on this forum.

I can chime in and say that I don't care, at all. I've long since ignored/muted the channel anyway, and I've got enough ways to waste my time that I don't seek additional one.
So it makes no difference to me.

The whole point of a politics discussion is to create a dedicated space where people can speak their different political opinions, even if things get heated. They're opinions. So the minute you go around saying one person's opinion is common sense and the other is in opposition to that you just went against the whole premise of political discussion lol. I tend to agree with Paul much of the time actually. Sometimes I agree with the other opinions too in ways I didn't expect. If you get rid of the thread it should be because it's too much for a laser forum and it's unnecessary, not because you personally feel some type of way about the discussions taking place. I do understand how it could be annoying for you to have to read all the posts though.

What if you applied a rule where contributions to that thread had to be more constructive, or no repetitions of the same cliche ideas or mockery were allowed? US political beliefs are deeply intertwined with our communities and cultural backgrounds and they constitute a space where you can adopt a perspective that is already highly established with counterarguments for everything, a way to twist everything to match your own point of view etc. and it's only getting worse. What's one man's trash is another man's common sense. So if no rule changes are made then it will indeed continue to go back and forth forever in endless sprawls of nonsense that end in an inevitable trash fire. Kinda like US politics in general But if some changes were made maybe it could become more productive. Idk, I try to keep my presence here away from politics and ignore that thread mostly so I'll continue to do that either way

No the deciding factor will be want you want. It isn’t the first time I’ve seen you mention closing that thread and it usually occurs whenever an argument pops up you don’t agree with. The rules of the thread applies. If you don’t want to see what goes on in that thread, you can just ignore it. The thread gives you the option. Without it you couldn’t, as the political fighting was everywhere else. Now be honest, how much of this poll was hoping you would have enough people agree with you just to close and delete it?

That's such bs curtis. That's not why I considered closing the thread. Don't start making an issue now

PS. You know ... I made this poll because I wanted to take into consideration how you guys might feel on the matter. If I didn't care about how it would affect you guys I wouldn't have created the poll in the first place yet you spit in my face anyway.

I have not used my power to slam you out of disagreement. You were told to stop calling me a trump supporter. I told you many times not to put a political affiliation on someone who doesn't claim to be with that affiliation. The fact that you don't get it just shows the way you think.
You constantly spread lies and misinformation so don't get all pissy with me because you get called out for it.

Alright the accusations and arguing needs to stop. I don't get why some of you insist on being so argumentative and confrontational. This is a very simple poll and thread. Enough with the personal attacks. Pick your vote and state your opinion if you wish and leave it at that.

I added another choice. This one I personally feel reflects how I feel about the thread. It's the personal attacks and disrespect that bothers me. I'm all for the political debates but not for the insults and petty bickering. I'm guilty for being disrespectful too which I hate myself for.

Good now you’ve rectified the first problem I had. The poll was inherently biased. Now you have equal options. This still not a personal attack. But comments during the thread don’t leave much to the imagination on what you wanted the outcome to be. The OP should of had a non biased approach, yet it took for me to pipe up for the first mention of a for argument for having thread remain. If you've relaxed your thoughts to keeping but moderating the thread, then good. This what was meant to happen anyway. The politics thread was not a free for all say what you like even if its insulting haven. My rules on the OP clearly state to respect each other.

What exactly is meant by this poll not being the deciding factor? Also I think you forget that it being my thread, I get notifications for it therefore every now and then I do browse it. I have seen for myself mentions of the thread closure by you. So that isn’t an attack, insinuation or bs.

I find it humorous that over the years that the pinnacle thread of my contribution has now become the politics thread. If only i turned it into a cash cow. Imagine me getting $1 for every mention of Trump, Biden or Clinton. I would finally be able to have that laser guide star.

I think politics has become too heated and people have become too divided. I just think we all need to just chill. I don't want to see people falling out or insulting each other. If the debate is becoming that intense then the people involved need to take a breather and think about whether it is really that important to spend their emotions over.

Personally I don’t care what happens to the thread based on it being mine. It’s the principle behind the closure and unnecessarily deletion I’m concerned about, and it wouldn’t matter if it belonged to someone else. I still believe you will encounter problems if the thread is got rid of. You’ve started this poll, people wasn’t making a fuss about it. Now you need to let people have their say and raise their concerns. If it’s decided under a fair poll of it being closed down. So be it. If it ends up being closed and deleted under biased and unfair circumstances then there will be a problem.
