Driver question: How do I "short" my driver and is it even necessary?

Hi guys,

After about a 5 year hiatus I've dusted off some of my old builds and have the laser bug once again lol. I have some new parts on the way but I also have components from when I built my lasers years ago.

I've searched up and down but for some reason I can't find an answer to my question, and I know its been discussed.

Today I will be receiving my 405nm (16x) from DTR and will be soldering it to a Survival Laser 445ma driver that Ive had for a long time. I've already checked the output current with my multimeter (~430ma) but I was wondering, is there a need to discharge any built up energy that may be in the driver? I've never had any issues in the past but I'm very rusty and would hate to kill my new diode.

Thanks for any and all help!

Cheers

I proceeded to build my 405nm laser and it works perfect. I'm not sure if it's the proper way to do it but I just touched the two driver wires together in hopes it would get rid of any built up charge.

Only a mod can delete it. Do you really want it gone?

Although I'm still curious what input you guys may have, I'm not sure this thread is really necessary now. I could not for the life of me figure out how to DELETE my thread lol?
You get a pair of metal tweezers and touch both sides of the output cap(s).
