Thought that i would share my little project here.
Around Feb of this year i ordered a brass host from Tomsk, and a NUGM03 + buck driver from Trinh.

Then the corona virus hit and everything was in a mess. Long story short i had to wait extra long to get the host.
But now the project is complete.

I waited for months to assemble it so i skipped the build pics :(
However i have also purchased quite a bit of misc equipment for building lasers. I will post here in the coming weeks.

Hi,,
Nice build congratulations , but why is the 12mm modulesticking out of the heat sink? It should be flush and even with the front of the sink.

Oh i left it sticking out a little bit because i am afraid that having it flush would bend the diode pins somehow.
In my testing with this host, i have used a 12mm module with a sharp 450nm 1.6w diode and when i pushed it in flush, the diode pins got a little bent.
Perhaps i just have to trim the diode pins a little shorter but i rather not risk it for now.

Visually the laser looks unfinished. Is it possible to add extra length with a threaded part? An extention would also protect that sticking out part.

Small edit: I have managed to push the copper module flush.

Technically its possible but i don't have access to a lathe so i can kiss the idea goodbye
However i am trying to add a 16mm planoconvex lens to the laser, to act as a detachable beam expander. It would give some protection for the top part of the laser.
So far the DIY beam expander works really well.

The results are here:

Nope, i found it on taobao (Chinas ebay)

Here is the link for the Lens and the Giant sized lens holder, if anyone wants to replicate this setup for a cheap beam expander.

16mm diameter, 40mm focal length lens:

Off topic: I've been wanting to buy from Taobao for so long, but the damn Chinese banks refuse to recognize my bank account. Do you know of anybody on these forums who has had success with Taobao that I could possibly do a group buy with?
Thanks!

I can't help much since i'm from Malaysia. For me, buying from Taobao is easy because Malaysia is one of the "officially supported" countries. I'm assuming you are from the US?

I don't know any westerners here that buy from Taobao, so there's that.
I can suggest a couple options:

1. Contact the supplier from taobao and buy from them directly.
2. Try to resolve the banking issue.
3. Get a taobao agent/ taobao forwarder. (Slightly costly)
4. Ask a chinese friend for help. (He or she could know a thing or two about taobao)

Alternatively you could contact Trinh Hong Phuoc and ask him if he is willing to buy for you and ship it to you, but you would have to pay for shipping from China to Vietnam, then from Vietnam to your country.

Thanks for the info. I didn't expect that many folks in the US buy from Taobao either, but it's still an intriguing prospect since the prices (for laser diodes) seem to be much lower over there (even with the shipping)
