Can you buy a 405nm laser diode on a C-mount/F-mount?

Hi apologies if this has an obvious answer but I'm building a device and need the smallest form possible of a 405nm laser diode. Unfortunately the smallest version of it that I can find is in the form of a 5.6mm TO-can. I know you can buy larger wavelength lasers on a c-mount/f-mount however I can't find any near UV lasers on these types of mounts, is there a reason for this or could anyone direct me to a website that could sell them in this form? Thanks!

You only see them in the sealed packages because of how quickly the die degrades in air. You may be able to do a custom order somewhere ($$$$) at the expense of diode life, but I would recommend you reconsider your design to accommodate a 5.6mm TO-can if possible. Hard to say much more without knowing what kind of power/space requirements you have.

Thanks for the quick reply! I'm a bit confused though, I thought laser diodes in the 405nm range were usually made out of AlGalnN Quantum well on a GaN substrate? Are you saying this would degrade in air or what is the die that you mentioned? Honestly I just want the smallest possible case for the laser diode, I was even considering taking the laser diode chip from a TO can (see the chip in the picture I've attached) and mounting it on a heat sink for the device we're trying to build. Power isn't really an issue either, mW range is fine once the lights wavelength is below 450nm.

Yes I'm saying that will degrade in air -Typically on this forum we see that as power loss in high power diodes and/or early death (for our purposes). Many of us here, myself included, can only speak on the DIY end of what you can and can't reasonably do.

To be honest, at this point I'll let someone else chime in - this topic is a bit out of my league. I'm far removed from any labs and I'm not sure what effects it may have at lower powers... I don't want to give bad advice. If nobody else responds, try reaching out to @Singlemode Laser here - he's probably the most knowledgeable person on the forum on anything GaN related.

Yes, there are 405nm diodes in TO38 3.8mm form.

Not sure what OP wants to do but he might consider a 405nm LED rather than a laser diode in a form that apparently does not exist and there is no demand for thus not produced.

Presence of oxygen, water/humidity end dust all effect the diode life and output negatively

Thanks everyone for the responses and links they were really helpful. The only 405nm TO38 3.8mm laser diode I could find were from Thor labs and were like €80 so your suggestions were really helpful. Yeah I presume they're just not available in the other form due to degradation in air.
