So with me being a laggard after learning that high powered handheld lasers were easily available back in December, I went on Amazon immediately and got their, as the manual calls it, "High -power blue lightf flashlight." It was listed on Amazon as "WORD GX" along with a bunch of other mumbo jumbo buzzwords like "military, tactical, flashlight," etc.

The host is rather unique looking, I don't believe I've seen it mentioned anywhere or any references to it at all

It's very powerful, I estimate about 800-900 mW, although there's no way to really know other than using a LPM which I don't have access to. Unfortunately after two weeks of use, the threading on the battery tailcap gave out. I tried to oil it but it just made it worse, which was when I decided to try the Thor from Laserpointerstore. I sent away for the 3W version and it finally came this weekend after a two month wait.

Again, there's no way for me to really get an accurate reading on the power other than using an LPM, but I have reason to believe the 3W claim is accurate. It makes a high pitch electrical sound when burning at the focal point, something that my more recently made Osram 2W and Nichia 1W builds definitely do not do. That alone is pretty impressive and actually pretty scary as well. I have to say I really like the host as well. At first, it felt a bit more bulky and unwieldy than the ones I assembled myself, but it occured to me that this thing feels a bit more manufactured and "processed" to be an end product.

It is not easily disassembled, although I haven't tried any harder than just a bit more force than usual to unscrew it. There is probably glue involved here, which is not something I really want to deal with, although I am curious which diode it uses. Here is the spot focused to "infinity" (or as far in as the focus screws) at about 15 ft:

and here is an unfocused diffuse reflection on the wall:

I have to say I'm impressed with the spot quality which is much more consistently "filled in" than my builds. Again any info on which diode this uses would be helpful :)

I have to say the Thor H wins out, although it does make me a bit uncomfortable. It seems to be designed as a bludgeon, and is definitely not something you want to bring outside with you. The host seems made to be just thrown around and abused without a second thought. My builds feel like precision optical instruments, whereas this feels like a dangerous weapon whose only safety feature is a half second soft start. On the other hand, the WORD GX host felt like an odd flashlight which is unique but not really imposing. It's definitely an interesting contrast between hosts. In conclusion, I have to rate the Thor H positively and I wish that noobies would find this device which actually turns out to be a quality product instead of getting scammed and buying a "50000mW" gatling laser for a lot more money. I would advise you to stay away from the Amazon "WORD GX" host as it evidently has manufacturing flaws and the Amazon reviews seem to coincide with this. Also, ALWAYS use good laser safety glasses while using these indoors and up close, which should be obvious. Thanks for reading!

Awesome review! Excellent point on noobies getting scammed on the "Gatling" lasers. Laserpointerstore is definitely the way to go for cheaper intro level high powered blues in my opinion.

I've never seen that Amazon host before and it does definitely look unique. Shame it gave out.

Just to clarify, you got the Thor H 2 correct? If you're trying to disassemble it, maybe I could give some pointers. Granted I haven't got the H 2 yet, but the Thor M 2 did not have any glue holding it together, and it can be somewhat easily taken apart if you have the right pliers.

I'd also like to know what the buzzing while burning is a result from as it's a very interesting phenomenon that happened in XM360's video review as well.

Again I just love me a good review and great job overall!

Thank you!

It's just the Thor H, not H2. It's available in 1.6W and 3W versions and takes 16340s. I believe the H2 takes bigger batteries. I found the XM360 video you're referring to and that's the exact sound I'm getting as well. Is this just a characteristic of higher power lasers or the Thor model in particular?

Ah I almost forgot about the H. My bad

The buzzing I think seems to only be with the 3W Thors as I never even heard of this on any other laser. Maybe someone more experienced can elaborate.

I'm also pretty sure there are many people that live close to you who are willing to LPM a laser for you.

Heres a short follow up, the Thor H is still holding up great. The main issue I had with this unit is that the focus is just slightly offset from infinity when screwed all the way in, making it difficult to turn it the single tiny hairthreads distance out to get a true "infinity" focus. Also, I want to replace the lens with a G2 but it's impossible to access the stock lens because of the the extremely tight and close fit to the focus adapter.

Also, I've determined that the high pitch electrical sound is actually caused by using cheapo Ultrafire batteries. I've got some Efest 16340s in this now and the sound is gone. This is a pretty great value for the money if you use good batteries. Here's some more output porn 🤤

Awesome.

Good tip about the batteries. I'll probably let XM know.

Just making me jealous that your H is fine. I just got my 3rd M2 after two replacements and this one is the worst one yet lol.

Sorry to hear about your M2. I've only had one of these units but it may be that the 3W Thor H has a higher level of care and QC put into the manufacturing? It looks like they're sold out of them on laserpointerstore as well, I might've gotten one of the last ones. It sucks that this appears to actually be a very sought after and counterfeited item, it's pretty much what everybody would want when it comes to a "burning laser" but from what I've read, most of these Chinese units come up short and disappointing. Maybe it's just a stroke of luck that I got a high quality unit?

I'm guessing this thing uses a Nichia NDB7875 or NDB7A75 or maybe even an old NUBM44 driven at a low current. It's certainly much more powerful than my Osram PLTB450B build

I've got a Thor H and it has the lens in the top part that actually screws off. If you suspect a NUBM44 diode that can easily be seen by its line profile at a distance. Likely something else. If it is a 9 mm diode it could possibly be the 7875, but might actually be another diode as those haven't been in production for awhile now.

My main concern is that it might be a very old and used up diode taken from a projector or something and not a clean pin for this specific unit. I'd guess that happens quite a bit with these cheaper lasers.
