Hi,
Found this on ebay.
Ofcourse the price is a little problem. What do you think? Didn't looked in datasheet but imagine this in a host :eek:.(It isn't possible I know, but I can dream.)

Very interesting although not unexpected, this is similar to the osram 20 chip unit PLPM-4-450

The real question is if these are what's to become common use in projectors then how can we best make use of them, 20 little lenses and what about the divergence of each chip, at 95w that's 4.75w each so divergence may be nubm44 like or worse but hopefully not.

Also it wound make a ton of waste heat at full throttle so active cooling will be needed.



p.s. I don't know about that ebay seller, 21 feedback ? I also don't see the nubm31t anywhere else or any info anywhere else so we shall see if more pop up in time.

Active cooling - do you mean TEC? What size?

I had an idea - in an ice maker there should be a compressor cooler inside - would it be enough to build a powerful cooling device.
I read that compressors are bigger but this old technology is still much more efficient than TECs.

Cool, but I don't understand the divergence called out on the data sheet, maybe I'm just being dumb. I guess that's 23 and 30 for each diode? My concern is how well aligned are the outputs? I know in the blocks they made before the alignment wasn't very good for long distance, only good for close up, i.e. a screen.

Probably will have little tiny GBalls on every diode making a 20 beam output similar to the 8 diode blocks 8 beam output that they call collimated beams.
That's what the nubm31t looks like, 20 little GBalls, but the 20 lens sheet may be removable like the 8 lens sheet in the v1, but in time I expect the lens sheet will be integrated.

Actually it looks like 4 little 5 lens sheets, that's one strip of glass with 5 lens bubbles, question is will removing it expose the chips to the air or not.

I don't know if this is a good thing, that top piece looks like it was milled out of one sheet, or molded, stamped etc. We might loose our source of 450 nm high power diodes if they are not going to make discrete diodes in the future..

No it's not good at all, but Osram and others will still make singles, I hope to see some holographic home entertainment in the not too distant future, that will bring us more of what we like.

If you could somehow take out diodes from this module it would be cheapest source of high powered diodes. Around 510$ shipping included that would be 25$ for diode.

G-balls may be not so bad, at least if the aim is focusing at not very long range.

I doubt that there are diodes as we are used to think of. If they were they should be without back part because you cannot put 5 in a row and have 14mm between 1st and 5th beam centers unless the diodes are 3.5mm.

Maybe there are just GaN crystals in holes of this brass plate?
Then we need to attach a holder for 20 G-2 lenses at the top of this chip. What is the diameter of small lenses inside of G-2 and G-8 collimators?

Yes, 6.33mm. Even aspherics with f=2mm would be too big with their 3.8mm diameter!

What about a more clever way: fix fast and slow axes separately. For this five 3.5mm wide and ca. 30mm long PCX cylindricals with f1 could be installed side by side and over them four similar with f2 90º rotated.
That would make 9 slim and long lenses in total to collimate all 20 beams making them to almost touch each other without any kind of KE - something like on this picture but made 20 times.

Of course someone should calculate f1 and f2 and organise a GB (min. 50 units as it was with the last GB of big C-lenses organised by CDBEAM)...
