Sneak peek, under construction: PBS cube combined dual NUBM44 laser diode host purchased from trinh hong phuoc, a www.laserpointerforums.com forum member. Also shown is a all copper host made by facebook member: Nguyen Dangloi

Another LPF member (Psst RCB) is also working on his, he is probably further along than I am. Who ever finishes their host first wins the 2X combined NUBM44 trophy, and I'm not in a hurry. Truth is, if he finishes his first and I learn from what he had to do, then my project will be easier and the main reason I passed one over to him. I believe it isn't too difficult to get this up and running as is, but he wants to do some modifications to his, I'm interested in what he does to his before I build mine. Robert? Any progress?

I haven't done anything laser build wise in a while, well not of any consequence, I've been dealing with some personal things and spending my hobby time on another hobby but I have all my parts ready to go, still need to modify those articulated mounts but I do have all my parts, cube, wave plate, diodes, modules, mirror, drivers, c-lenses, primaries, I did install a threaded plate for a 3XBE and I made my mounting holes slightly oversized for adjustment, Rich made me some 2 inch by 1/4 thick threaded plates that I have used on other builds as well so let him know if you want one.

As far as the set up goes I will install both laser modules and drivers so they will both power up and then set the cube and make sure the center laser and cube are aligned with the beam exiting dead center, also I will use the beam expander because it lets you see very well that your beam is centered both at it's input and output by viewing the beams print on the output lens, then set my wave plate on a small aluminum plate that I will drill and tap for or I might use the included mount, I haven't decided yet, then I will set my c-lens pair but will not bond the lenses, just gravity set so I can see all is well then put them aside, then set the mirror for the 2nd beam into the cube and align it to the beam expander, I will use temporary switches on the driver inputs so I can power up each laser separately while working, then I will set my c-lenses and bond with everything powered up and aligned, I always bond my c-lenses in place after adjusting with it running so I know it's just right, wearing my laser safety glasses of course.

Hi Alaskan,

Maybe it will be interesting for you if not known before: I found that my 2'' PCX lenses from Thor fit well in place of the maglite bezel window.

So I made a HS for 5 12mm modules (more would not fit in) and tried to drive 5 Sharp 405nm with drivers. Unfortunately 4 alkaline Energizer D cells did not bring enough power (U falls from 6 to 3.6V at 2.7A drain). Now I am waiting for 2D extension and a couple of Li-SOCl2 33600 cells
to try again...

And beams are not exacty parallel, just more or less, at 20cm focused spots fit into 3x3mm square.
