Just subscribed to her channel, thanks for sharing, I subscribe to many astronomy and physics channels and hadn't seen this one yet. Had heard about being able to detect gravitational wave from colliding black holes and neutron stars but really awesome that it could potentially be used to see back in time to so close to the big bang as well.

Yeah, we have one of these in my state. The other is in Louisiana. Funny how the first one was detected in 2015 only because a team working to calibrate it decided to stop for the night. If they had not, the gravitational wave would not have been detected at both facilities.

Thanks for sharing Steve. And nice to see you Simon. (y)
The only reason I posted this was I thought how awesomely cool it would be to burn some tape and pop a balloon with this laser.

Joking aside I'd like to see the optical setup.

The program, "NOVA", on PBS had an hour long program on these LIGO facilities and the first gravitational wave detected in 2015. If you get an opportunity to watch, it is well worth your time.

I just enjoyed watching her...video. Was interesting. She has some good stuff. Nile red is more my speed since I’m a chemist.
