Fun with NUBM44

Today i have a problems with one NUBM44
When I lightly shook the diode, it seemed that the beam was deflected, and there wee some objects, i really didn't know what happened until I knew the main reason was that the diode window was loose,so bad because this is the first thing I encountered, and now what to do to fix it?,glue, maybe not possible,My decision is to use a sharp needle to break the diode window, be very careful because only a small collision can damage the semiconductor layer, in the end it worked, i removed the glass from the diode, and miraculously the diode was still alive, IMG_20190624_172412.jpg00000IMG_00000_BURST20190624171909791_COVER.jpgIMG_20190624_172113.jpgthis is some pics about it,i know now it is same a nubm08 decaned,but i very happy when i found the error
Has anyone encountered this problem same me?

Iv'e seen some posts of the window breaking, or detaching..
Your probably one of the few that actually successfully took the window out in pieces without having to decan it:)

Yes I have cracked a window before and the window is much bigger than the opening so you may still have glass inside, the window is as wide as the top of the can.

I took them all, had to break them, it was really a miracle for me, anyway, this diode can't be in a build because the quality is not guaranteed, but it will be used by me. for other purposes

There are really many small debris, this is really difficult, but anyway, I worked with the mind that the diode will die, it's comfortable

You can remove the window-can from the nubm44 just like you remove the GBall-can from nubm08, it's attached by indium the same way.

I had the same problem and was able to break all of the glass into small enough pieces to remove them, I thought I would likely kill the diode trying that, but I didn't.

I used a needle through the hole against each piece at an angle breaking them in half into smaller and smaller pieces until they could be shaken out of the small hole. I believe de-canning is the best way, no risk of damaging the diode inside that way.

maybe same i did,haha
but i think it can't survival too long,because a de-canning diode will die fast,i will run it at 4.5A and will updates when it die

If the diode will have reduced life due to de-canning, having the window out would have the same effect, I believe. Has anyone established these particular diodes have reduced life when exposed to oxygen? We know the 07E does, but I believe these are not affected nearly as much, or at all.

I haven't run into this problem, so I can't say for certain that the life is reduced. But, it seems likely as all the other decanned blue diodes die an early death.

The window on the NUM44 detached and he carefully broke the glass window and removed what ever glass of the window he could.
The can is the original NUM44 diode.

They don't last as long de-canned because any micro contaminants in the air gets onto the facet and when lasing they burn and damage the protective coating on the facet and that in turn allows humidity in the air to cause cracks/erosion of the facet when lasing.
So de-canned and laying around turned off your de-canned laser diode will not degrade, but when lasing de-canned is when the problem occurs.
I read a thread over at PL where projector guys did some real testing but I can't find it.

I expect that the higher the output is the easier it is to burn contaminants on the facet, 1w red and 1w green diodes don't seem to have a problem but the multi watt blues in my experience are down to half brightness in about a month of heavy daily use de-canned but with the can are basically as good as new after a month of daily use ( 30 minutes a day ) that's what I have seen......so if you only turn your laser on for a minute or two 3 days a week you may not notice anything for a year or more, really even if you lost 20% of your output you likely would not know unless you do a LPM test.

So for the casual pointer use you could get away with de-canned diodes, but for projector use or heavy daily use hand held lasers you will see failures much too soon.
