532nm module Soap box build

I got really bored last night and remember that I had a soap box left from my trip in Florida.
I also remember that I had a 532 JD 850 laying around so I just pulled the module from that and had some parts laying around like battery carriers and switches. This is the funny part. I wired everything in like I was supposed to, and These lasers as you all know are case positive so I thought I wired it correctly, but I accidentally wired it backwards, I put the battery in and nothing happened. I thought “uh oh” I looked over everything and realized I had wired it wrong, luckily this particular module must have had a reverse polarity chip in place. So instead of taking it apart and re wiring it I just put the battery in backwards in the carrier. Tah dah! I adjusted the Potentiometer to where I was just getting 30mw from a 40mw module so I wouldn’t push the IR too hard. Anyways. Thanks for looking

I've taken to using tiny SMD MOSFETs tacked on as reverse polarity protection in all of my builds where the driver board doesn't have that functionality built in Cheap insurance if I forget the orientation of the battery...

Either way - it's nice validation for all the members out there that want to build something and don't have access to machine tools

Your build reminds me of my Eclipse mint tin build, I should see if I can find it and fire it up.

I built several of these type boxed 532nm lasers several years ago. I had purchased a number of 200 mW modules from a seller on eBay and even used IR filters on some. But, the IR content was so small that I soon realized it wasn't worth the extra effort. I did use heat sinks on the driver output devices and added fans to actively cool the aluminum enclosures. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

I would mark the battery position because you just might put it in backwords again. You might think you will remember but as you have a bunch of lasers now, trust me you will forget
Lucky you though I must of accidently shorted out 10 fasttech modules..

Let me recommend searching for " project box " on ebay, you can get them in plastic and metal and here's an old box I made years ago from 1/4 inch aluminum plate, you can stand on it lol but it's all good fun.

thanks buddy that's actually a very good idea. deeply noted. yeah I would love to machine my own stuff but I simply cant afford a Lathe I guess making lasers out of strange things is the next best thing

im glad you brought that up. im thinking of buying a 200mw 532 module from Techhood. you think its a good idea?

youre so right too man, I can think of several times where I almost put a battery in wrong because I forgot what the polarity was. im sure my time will come soon enough hah!

Here ya go, Richie, (Green Eclipse) this is from a few years ago, it's one of my first builds. I don't really use it much, it was just the novelty of putting a laser in something a bit different!

I'm not familiar with Techhood's 200 mW 532nm modules, so I can't advise you on them. The ones I got were ~$50 each, but I got them for $30 by buying 6 at one time. It turned out that they were up to 200 mW with some coming in as low as 189 mW.

I bought an advertised 200mw 532 module from techhood and it metered around 140mw. It looks good but was under spec

My box build has a 200mw 650nm, it's an old build but those 650's last forever.

that's actually pretty good It seems like, yeah I think I may do the same and just order a bunch of 532 modules, wouldn't hurt to have a few laying around for future stuff
