Since you live in a place that restricts the output of laser pointer output power, I'd go looking for your lasers in a store where you live. I picked up a <5 mW 650nm laser pointer ten years ago for $2.00. You can likely find some in red or green that are 3 Euros or less.

Your best bet close to UK is http://www.roithner-laser.com/laser_pointers.html if you want a certain low output pen.
Their RPL-532 series is both output controled and IR filtered. THey offer several different models 520nm and 532nm although not dirt cheap. Euro 25 and up

If you want excellent quality high output see : https://www.sanwulasers.com/ and https://www.jetlasers.org/

If the neither thin pen style or <1mW or <5mW output really matter to you you can opt for low end mass produced Chinese 301-or303 from China on eBay for $5 -10
thanks, its another one ill look into a bit more, seems good (roithner). as for ebay, i will prbly just end up getting some cheapie pack of lasers for 5£ for 3 pen.

:D its £ in England, not Euro! Thanks for the advice though. Yes, that probably the reason why you wont find a normal laser pointer in any electrical/technology shop.

Sorry. I didn't know you were in the UK. Still, you can find these types of lasers here at large pharmacies and other multiple offering stores. Since these lasers are already limited, why pay a large price for something you can get cheaply.

As for going into a store and getting a <5mW. I don’t know many places on the high street that sells lasers personally. Now Maplin has gone, only pet stores or pet aisles in supermarkets offer lasers. Usually 650’s but they aren’t that great and are <1mW. You are also overcharged compared to going online. You may be able to find multifunction keychain pointers in department stores, but again they are only slightly better quality cat pointers with a led torch included. Coming to think about it, the only Class 3R/3a lasers in my collection is a red laser I got from Barcelona and that modified Maplin pointer I mentioned earlier. Getting lasers between 5-10mW is surprisingly not straightforward in the UK. They are definitely not accessible in our shops. I suggest following up on Encap’s suggestion if you want a regulated laser above 1mW.

Yeah, i was surprised myself to see how hard it was to find a new laser. Heck, i thought it was as simple as going online and getting the first 5mW thing i saw. But it clearly was not that simple. Which is the reason why i joined forum

precisely the reason why i cancelled the order of another laser that i got. since it was ovr priced and LPF said it was prbly some cheapo chnese laser. Sadly in UK, normal shops dont do it :(

There's nothing fundamentally wrong with buying a cheap chinese green provided your expectations are properly tempered and you're not being overcharged :) Also, safety considerations.

Might be worth looking at something from Odicforce like I posted on your profile?

i think odic force dont do pens - only parts. and sadly i (most likely) dont have the skill nor time nor patience to build one myself. Maybe when i get more experinces with lasers. The youtuber Styropyro really impresses me. Thannks anyway. I think Roithner lasers from Austria would be a good bet as i would also have no customs duty to pay (its part of EU)

Yep, Roithner is probably the best non-china bet :)

If 1 mW is the limiting factor there, you won't get a higher power than that in a store. So, if you need 5 mW or 10 mW, you will likely have to go outside the UK to find it. It depends on what you are trying to accomplish. I have a 1 mW red pointer and its diffuse reflection is okay to look at. I have done it many times as you can see the speckle in your eye as opposed to a wall. It is only something I do with this one pointer I got years ago. It is likely <1 mW. I don't have an LPM that can measure powers that low, so I don't know for certain.

It is recommended that UK retailers do not sell >1mW pointers. However there is no official restriction on ownership and importation. So definitely importing is the best option.

You may have missed the point..OdicForce sells very easy to assembled lasers as that afaik is not , by law, the same as selling one that is already 'put together'
or
order one of 7 green lasers under 10 mW offered at aixiz.com
however shipping from Houston will not be cheap nor will it get there very fast (unless you pay more)
OR (if you do not mind overspec ..
Three (RGV)pen pointers for $5 usd & free$hip at 'blab1391' <ebay china add laser eye wear (or anything else they sell) to your cart and they will all ship together.
mine:
however. metered , ( w/ Hyperion)
650 red 22 mW-532 green 37mW and violet 405 at >70 mW!!!
another red was just 6mW-- shined the 532 through the eyewear they offer cheap but they knocked it down to 1mW--same result with 70mW of 405
-got at (blab)auction $1.25 super nice case too..
