When testing these Sharp diodes, I keep them at 18* C and test first just above threshold current, about 50 mA. They don't tend to shift a lot from there up to 300 mA. I have run through several dozens of these Sharp single mode diodes over the past year or so. I've found they stay very stable at 275 mA when heat sinked to a fairly large aluminum heat sink or a copper one half that size. They will shift if you allow them to heat up by as much as 45* Delta C. You can expect to see a shift by as much as 4nm.

Bumpity bump bump: Performed narrowband spectroscopy at relatively cold temps to check for wavelength shift.

With the hurricane flooding everything in sight and doom approaching...I found 2 of the 488 lasers on my porch today. Obviously I did what was required and stuffed 2 Orbtronic 3500 mah 18650's hot off the charger into them and tested for power on the Laserbee 2 3watt meter.
Laser 1. 66.7mw average, 67mw max.
Laser 2. 65.9mw average, 66mw max.

The threads are bare aluminum and pretty fine on the host. The host feels blubby in hand, soft and rounded with a pleasant weight. Focus has some backlash from the gasket. All in all, I recommend this laser highly and can't thank LED enough for turning me on to it.

The color is freaking epic. It amazes muggles with ease!!!!
If you want 488, don't hesitate. I am very pleased with mine. Blubtastic shape and feel and glorious cyan.

I am going outside now for some beam viewing!

Thanks again LED!!!!!!!!!

Both of mine came with labels. They listed many wavelengths and powers yet did not include 488nm.
None of the choices on the label were checked!!!

Very nice!
When did you order? I ordered the 505 from the same source and they say Oct 2- Nov 2 for arrival.

I hope the hurricane does not hit you too hard-stay safe. Lasers in the rain! I'll bet it makes for fun beam shots.

I just charged up my first of those Orbtronics.
Do the spots look the same? I understand from Paul that there is sometimes a few nm difference. MIGHT be enough to perceive if you see both at the same time.

There is a slight difference between the 2 I received. It is very small to my eye but one leans more towards the teal side
than blue. Either is gorgeous and delightful. I see we have no rep anymore. Bummer that!

Nice! I like the colors too. I've a 492. Now I want a 488! And of course the 505 is on it's way. So far-not a single red. I'm leaning towards 635-638 nm.
Not everyone goes "oooooh" the way we do. :)
Too bad about Rep. I did "like" your post.

A long time ago I bought a 635nm pointer, it is 5mw and pen style. A Quarton infiniter. The paint is worn off but it still works great!
At the time 635 was exotic so it cost 80 dollars!!!!! It looks orangish compared to 650. Much brighter.

It is my best cat toy laser and it runs forever off 2 AAA batteries. I have found it difficult to score one as nice at the same power/wavelength.

Likes are basically the new reps. Just it’s nice not to think about it that way anymore. Also no more inflation leading to rediculously high numbers. :D
