Hello,

I would like to ask if anybody is using laser module from odicforce in combination with nubm44 diode. The diode holder seems to have hole for diode pins with too small diameter. Is it possible to use this module host with nubm44 host? Or do I need to drill that hole to make it wider?

Hi,
Looks like a 12mm module , if I think what they are made of it's a brass module with a chrome finish. If that is what it is then I wouldn't use it for a NUBM44 diode I would opt for a copper / 12mm module for a 9mm diode . copper is better to transfer heat to the primary heat sink.

Hi, its 18mm in diameter... im curious if I can fit diode’s pins into that tiny hole

Hi If thats the back half just drill it larger for the pins. Could use more pics at different angle to help better.

Yes, thats what Im asking if I need to drill that hole or I can fit it there... thanks

You could drill it larger if you think your diode pins wouldn't fit, but I agree with Rich, I'd use a solid copper module with the optional solid copper back side available from DTR's store.
If you have more room, you could also look into one of DTR's 20mm or larger copper modules. :yh:

Be sure and put heat shrink tubing on your diode pin/wire connection no matter which route you take.

Temperature is the thing Im thinking about... the mount is just some alu alloy and I need that for cnc cutter so the copper module would be better but I cant find any copper heatsinks with fan... just the cheap chinese or those from odicforce

Your problem with the pins fitting the back of this module shouldn't be an issue. You only need to solder your silicone wires to the pins and use shrink tubing to completely insulate them. But, I would use the copper modules for the NUBM44 diode. You can get them in 20 mm size to fit the lab hosts from the Chinese. Add a fan to the back and you should be ready to go.

Okay so, I need two laser modules...

1. M140
2. Nubm44

I need both for cnc machines (m140 for engraver and nubm44 for cutter)

Should I go for chinese laser modules with fan or should I purchase copper modules (35mm for nubm44 and 20mm for m140) from dtr with xyz holders? I need nonstop on duty cycle but Im not sure if the copper modules with xyz holder can handle all the heat... what should be the best option for me?

Your best option for an unlimited duty cycle is lab hosts. With active cooling you should be able to use them for both diodes. Since the divergence of the NUBM44 is horrible, you will have to use it close for cutting. This will give you another problem as you will have to blow away any debris and fumes or they will contaminate your optics. The closer to your material you need to cut, the great your power density of your beam will be. That means you will need a lot of air flow to push your cutting detritus well away from you laser.

By lab host you mean the little black modules with 30mm fan attached to it? Or something else? Can you provide some link to show what do you mean?

No, they are usually 40 mm on one side, so the fan is 1600 mm^2. Don't have a link at the moment, but they are not difficult to find. Just search for laser diode hosts. The modules are 20 mm in diameter and are cylindrical. The fans are +12 volts DC. You can get them for TO-5, 9mm diodes and TO-18, 5.6mm diodes. Those are the sizes of the NUBM44 and M140 respectively.

I find that a lot of different modules need to be drilled out for the pins and wires to fit on a NUBM44 or similar 9mm diode. I generally use a 4.5mm drill bit which is enough to fit the pins, wires, solder and heatshrink.
