Red dimmed light coming out of green laser

Hi everyone. I bought a 303 laser pointer and it worked fine at the beginning. When I tested it out a couple of minutes later it only showed a very light and small green dot. I didn't know what it was so I left it and tried again later. Then later there was only a really small dimmed red light coming out. What can I do and is my laser pointer already broken??!!! Please help.:cryyy:

Your laser is dead.. Not much you can do, just buy new one..

Don't look into the red light, as it is infrared and is more powerful than it looks. Before discarding, check your batteries. If your batteries are fine, then it most likely broken.

it could be a short of your batteries inside the host and voltage starting dropping, first check your batteries voltage and if they are good then your laser is dead and as CurtisOliver said don't look at the red light because its infrared and can be very well be over 100mw in power.

Is the red light a byproduct of damage, or is it always showing with that intensity from any green laser?

The dim red dot is the 808nm pump diode. Normally, most of this is converted to 1064nm, then to 532nm. But, it seems yours is just putting out the pump diode wavelength. These are cheap DPSS lasers, so just buy a new one.

Okay thank you all for replying one question. How do i check my batteries. Where do i need to look at if they are good or not because I don't have more of them it came with a charger thats all. Do i need to look at the voltage or something?

Also do you guys happen to know how to prevent the red dimmed light to occur again because this happened totally random and I still want this laser and probably going to order from the same seller

If you want a battery analyzer/charger, you can buy the Opus BT-C3100 v2.1 which is among the best at www.liionwholesale.com. They also offer new batteries at the best prices of anywhere I have purchased them. As far as buying another 303 532nm laser pointer, you might want to check around on eBay where these are offered by many sellers.

I have that charger. It really is so much better than having to keep replacing those no-name mystery chargers with the green light that might over charge. Less worried about things burning down too when going out for a bit. :)

I've had mine since they were first offered for sale. I use it all the time, even though I have many chargers including Nitecore and other multibay chargers.

Doesn't make sense---why do you want to order again from someone who sent you defective garbage quality?
Return it for a refund and/or replacement--at least you can then see if the seller stands behind the poor quality product and intends to give something that actually works for a reasonable amount of time for money spent.
Laser 303s only cost, retail, $4.98 --about as much as a good cup of coffee--what do you expect for that?
They are all a gamble --some OK some not OK.

The only long term solution is to buy a better quality 532nm laser with an IR filter built in included.
For excellent quality see:

That's unfortunate, it basically means the laser is dead. Possibly the crystals were shaken out of alinement and that's why you still have some IR light making it through. I wouldn't even bother trying to get a refund on such a cheap laser, I'd just order another and hope for better luck. Alternatively, you should do as Encap suggested and look into buying a higher quality laser. Sanwu/Jetlasers/Laserpointerstore.com are all decent options with varying prices.

To check the battery: if it takes a lithium battery, make sure the voltage isn't below something like 2.6v, and when charged you can check the under load voltage when a load is applied. Someone else could tell you what resistor would be a good test in comparison to what the laser draws. Then tell us the resulting voltage, and we can tell you if it is good. But the battery probably isn't the problem.

Sure, everything the Opus can do can be done by other means such as internal resistance and capacity. But, if you don't want to set it up to test all these battery properties, it is easier to load them up in the Opus and you can test four different batteries all at the same time with no fuss.

All This ^^^^
Brunaan, are you in the US at least. Good members like everyone who have replied and are trying to help you and ask you to do a welcome to get to know you as it make's a big difference to what they can recommend. and not to troll you..
The $301, 303,s for $5 are cheap enough to get a a couple on the same order and usually 1 will be stronger than the other..They also have the potential to last a long time as long as you don't put the battery in backwords, as it will kill it or if you keep dropping it hard as what Razako said about the crystals..
Regarding to what Encap and I said has been posted 1000's of times..Not a dig at you just it gets old after a long while.
What is your budget? if its not much I would get the said 301's and 303's and or add another that comes with a battery and charger.
To test the basic Voltage of your battery a cheap $5 Digital meter will do fine. If you live in the US you can probably get one free from "Harbor Freight Tools" with the coupons they have in all the mail flyers. You just have to buy something even if it's only 99cents:)
Time to get some glasses if you want to try match burning..At least get a pair $2 ebay cheapies for "now".
