I bought one last year for a laser of theirs. The first time I used it I thought the beam of the laser was off center. Today, for the first time I notice as I was screwing it onto the laser what's off center is the adapter itself. Noticably off center. Has anyone else had this problem? Have to contact Grey now to remedy the problem. If I knew how to resize I'd upload a photo.

Hey Steve, if you're talking about the large diameter ring next to where you screw the BE into the laser, it is supposed to be adjustable.
After you screw your B.E. on, you can loosen the large ring and then move the B.E. around to adjust for centering the beam, then re-tighten the knob.

Edit: Here's a couple of pics showing what I'm trying to explain.

The ring in the center on the bottom row, threads into the B.E., and its O.D. is smaller than the I.D. of the outer knurled ring on the right, allowing radial adjustment.

Thanks BowtieGuy! Beam is now centered.
Obviously if I had noticed that I would not have posted.

Great photos and explanation BowtieGuy
That adapter seems to stump a lot of people.
I guess is because when it is tightened down it is locked into position so several have thought it is off center/not right and they fail to realize it is meant to be adjustable and adjusted to suit the laser the beam expander is installed on + it comes not adjusted to any particular laser. They/JL should put a small instruction paper that explains that and the focus aspect in with the BE when packed for shipping.

+rep when I can

Cool, glad it worked out!

That particular place to adjust the centering is not really very easy to see if you don't know its there, other members have had the same question. :yh:

Edit: Thanks Encap! :D

Instructions are a good idea.

I don't own a single thing from JetLasers, but this has come up enough that I knew about it. You would think that as the adapter is adjustable, they would add an instruction on a sheet of paper. It couldn't cost that much to do.

Or on site instructions.

Good points from both of you guys, it probably would be best to have instructions in both places, it wouldn't cost much, and would eliminate a lot of headaches and needlessly disgruntled customers.

anyone contacting me or JL would get links to Facebook and Youtube videos-- AND I have posted many times as well.

One common problem happens when the larger 'collar' gets over tightened and due to mechanical disavantage finding it very hard to loosen these parts. The only JL BEs that did/do not require any adjustment was the very 'shortlived' PL-Ds (I have only one a 638nm)BEFORE making adjustments try 'standing' the laser on its tailcap-- and moving the parts in a way the lessens the clipping (very common on the 9mm blue diodes and unavoidable.) IF you overtighten pad some pliers or channellocks to hold the smaller parts for disassembly w/o scratching the laser.
I have Pro=Pl-E JL BEs in silver and black-- ready to ship 'FREE' to CONUS Buyers.

hope this helps---hak

It's just one of those things where the designer thought it would be an obvious feature but users don't spot that directly.

Guess the good thing is that vendors can just put up a FAQ on their websites to address those things :)
