Sounds great, 3 should be plenty. My favorite Pocket is the 150mw 520nm, such brightness in such a small package. Next would be the special request build I had done. A 1 watt 445 Pocket, burns quite nicely, does get hot quickly so it’s something I’ve got to watch. But it’s fun one too. I’ve got some Pocket beam shots posted here on the enchanted beam thread if you like to take a peak

https://laserpointerforums.com/f48/enchanted-beams-thread-98105.html

Enjoy :)

Oops, missed that thread.

Thanks Bob! BTW.. I have full backpack of new beamshots coming up.. Just going through of 'em ;)

You been posting such great shots lately! And I’ve been slacking so much. Things just haven't been right for beam shots. But it’s something I keep in the back of my mind so when the opportunity arises, I can grab my camera and lasers and grab some. Looking forward to your new posts.

@ Jesse. It’s the thread some of us post our beam shots on. Your more than welcome to post your shots there also, the more the merrier.

To get back to the topic, i’ve reed threads that mention members like DTR etc that do de-canning of laser diodes. Is it worth to let those people de-can my 445nm 1W diode? Maybe to keep it spare for a future build, or to be able to continue using it in the laser when the diode is fixed.

Sorry to derail your thread. :(

I would think so, but there’s members here that could answer that question with much more specificity than I’m able. Hope they chime in. Just know that when you de-can a diode it’s much more likely to get dirt inside thereby causing a burn out. But it’s definitely a possibility.

Haha no problem, yeah I know that, and I will leave it as it is right now until members with more knowlegde on de-canning chime in.

You could probably do that, but I'd have to imagine that the international shipping costs both ways, would be nearly as much as a new diode.

PS - I just went to DTR's store to check diode prices, and it seems he's closed for the week!

Thats what I was also thinking about, shipping cost are probably more than new diode.. :)

Just probably cheaper / easier to change the diode. Needs just some soldering..
-And it has longer lifespan

Okay, then I will probably just normally use it, until I build the confidence and make some free time to sit down and spend some time replacing the diode when it is going to irritate me enough or when it’s on the point of not bring able to burn anymore. For now I will look around for some (video) reviews of the Sanwu Pocket Series when I return from class.

Jesse, that gattling is not worth putting any money into it. Even if you paid a lot for it those lasers are all cheap. When I pointed you to laserpointerstore.com, I was thinking about the Thor series they offer. Sanwu also offers binned cheap lasers too. I got a Thor H from LPS to review and it is still working well to this day.

SOLVED: Help with blurry 1W 445nm

UPDATE: Today I decided to remove the diode glass from my 445nm 1W diode. Finally after some very fine poking and scraping, I can proudly say that it worked!

In future when the lens is dirty I will just use some compressed air.

So you may wonder how did I do it? I will tell you: after half a day of researching laser diodes and surfing the internet looking at macro pictures of them, I had enough confidence to start. I grabbed the tiniest jewelers screwdriver I had and very gently poked the first small hole directly above the little gold piece inside the diode. Keeping the laser upside down and gently shaking it, to remove any glass(dust). Working my way around the diode glass until (almost) everything was removed. I then tested it, one outside was now showing some little lines. I decided to see if they would show when the lens was on, fortunately they didn't. The unfocussed rectangle shape (with the lens on) is clean and the edges are sharp.

PS: the little 'white' dot that is located left from the center in the second image is lens glare (noticed after posting it here, too lazy to take another shot...).

Good job! Love it when a plan comes together. Very well done, took some steady hands. Impressive. :gj:

I would say you got incredibly lucky, as that could have gone sideways on you fast. Many people who have tried to remove a broken window from a laser diode have failed. Hopefully, this won't decrease the life of the diode. And a lesson learned. :)
