Hello guys!
I have just finished my first laser .
I am using a laser from old dvd burner + diy laser driver and 9v battery.
Guys i have a question . Why after i focus the lens the laser wont burn anything ..... I am attaching some pictures.
The output of the driver is around 0.325ma...

You need to give more information/details for anyone to be able answer. Diode type, driver detail, lens.

Some photos would help also--you mentioned attaching photos but there are none.

Sorry my bad. I had a problem with resizing the images . I attached the images with the driver and the drive from i sourced the LD.

Found the problem! :D

Assuming you meant 325mA or 0.325A, not 0.325mA. ;)

Do you have appropriate laser safety glasses? That makes life easier when trying to focus a laser beam to a small point. What material were you trying to burn?

Hello , i have a laser protection glasses
OD4+ for 635nm.
Yes i meant 325mA ;) , im trying to burn a thin black plastic with no succes by now... i tried lighting a match but it cant light it...

Are you sure the stable output that your diode is getting is 325ma?because the 9 volt batteries are for very low power applications. Also what writing speed is the burner because i cant tell from the picture,325ma could be too high if the driver wasnt 24x.overcurrent could cause serious reduction in power(foldback effect) or 'led' your diode and only a small amount of light would emit from it.

Hello, The drive is rated 16x speed.Hm my multimeter shows a 320mA current with 2,5v OUT voltage. .... But The laser diode is emmiting very high power . Im shure that its not dead.

OD4 for 638nm is OK for 638nm--dvd diodes are 405nm--what is the OD for 405nm?

Sounds like your voltage is too low and/or battery not up to supplying a 16X diode--or--- the diode is bad

DVD diodes are ~650nm, Blu-Ray diodes are 405nm. The picture shows a red laser, so clearly a DVD diode.

That current sounds like it's on the high end for a 16x diode though, I'd be trying somewhere around 200-250mA for that sort of diode. Keep in mind over-driving a diode can result in reduced power.

Guys thank you ! I have found that while using my PSU 5v line with 2,5a current , the laser diode started to burn the black plastic !!! Thank you :) Maybe the 9v battery is not enough....

You can get 9V Lithium batteries, those can provide enough current. Regular 9V alkali batteries can only provide relatively small amounts of current, they usually contain 6x AAAA cells.

Using 9V to drive a ~2.5V diode with a linear regulator is wasteful too, you should have your input voltage as close as possible to the output, 5V is far more suitable.

Oh OK. I didn't look at the photos--the post was up without photos at first--yes is a red dvd diode. Explains the 638nm goggles comment too.

Probably in the 9V battery not being enough voltage for it.

9V is plenty, 9V square batteries just can't provide much current.

Guys , advise me what king of lithium battery should i use . :) Thank you .

Can you post your driver schematic?
