Laser Only Shooting IR

I recently bought a laser off Ricker. He forgot to send me a charger and recently the laser began acting up. I click the button and it's nice and strong. But within seconds it's very weak and after around 5-8 seconds it is shooting only ir. Could this be due to the battery not being charged? Or Is it a problem with the laser?

I assume this is 532 nm green. Might be battery if it behaves regulary like this (or some other reasons as well). However depends if there is more complex electronics what can control the IR pump diode to deliver still same power no matter the battery voltage (in some interval). Once the power pumped into solid state laser crystal is not sufficient to to produce laser light (even IR from the solid state crystal) than there is basically nothing to double the frequency to get green.

How did you recognize it was IR? Good DPSS portable laser should have IR filter (if not IR laser of course) to reduce unwanted IR. Be careful and under no circumstances look into aperture and better do not mess up with it without proper glasses.

What laser is that? The best question to start to identify possible cause.

Edit: If you bought it from LPF member ask him.

It is a 301 and he forgot to send a charger which he has done. I'm gonna chill and just leave it alone until I recharge the battery. I believe it is IR because when looking at it through my phone it is pink/purple/red.

Maciej, you will for sure need a volt meter in this hobby:)
"Harbor Freight Tools" has been a blessing for this hobby and in just about every mail flyer you will see free coupons for lots of stuff and just about always a OK entry level DMM. Just have to by something even if its 1 cent...
Are you also using the CR123 from your first laser? Could just be the issue as it runs no more than 3.2V when fully charged.

Yes, this will be IR. Don't directly observe it. Good idea on waiting to recharge the battery.

These kinds of questions make me wonder, remember the guy who came in here creating a thread before about the red light coming out of his pointer?

To be honest though Alaskan. For those who don't know how their green pointers work, it would raise questions to them when they see 'red' coming out of the laser instead. So this sort of question will keep popping up.
On this occasion the source of the red light is known, but doesn't know why.

I agree, I see both sides though. Good idea to warn him anyway.

I agree that there is the occasional HMT around, but not remember that not all are. :)

This guy has made three, maybe four, provocative posts now, too many too soon. That and other things has me concerned, could just be his personality though, but I doubt it. Anyway, until this shakes out, as it certainly will, welcome to the forum and don't look at that red light!

I will give him another chance. He seems to want to turn things around.

maciej crazyj...
If you think I am someone else I guarantee I am not. I will even send you a pic on Skype or snapchat if you want. I just bought the laser off forum member Ricker

I've also realized what is accepted and what is not on the forum. No more proactive posts will be coming from me hopefully.

As I recall, CrazyJ was Issac Clark, the guy who got banned. I spoke with VG on a Skype conference call a couple days ago and he swears he is not only not posting here, but never even looks in any longer. Thought I would add this to the other speculation going around.
