The next thing I would like to make into a reality is a custom beam corrector using very high quality Cylindrical Lenses, I'm wondering just how small could this be made to attach to my laser hammer ?

The 6X pair I get from LSP are 12x6 and 12x10 mm and need about 31-35mm distance between plus a couple to clear your G2 and it's retainer, also you want room for your BE to screw in, so I would say 50mm or about 2 inches of additional length to house your 6X pair.
OPT also makes some pairs that are physically bigger but I don't know that they are any better and the large ones CDBeam777 uses I have not seen for sale yet. But the short answer is 2 inches more length counting the enclosure.

p.s. The biggest part of these builds are the batteries and the heat sink.

That's LSP and the 6X are what I use, I got a little better deal in a group buy, there was a GB in PL not long ago but it's likely over and we are only talking about saving 10 bucks.

You may want to test a 3 element and the 3X, it's an easy set up and works pretty well.

If you go this way with the 6X and want to use the 3X BE after I have only had good results with sanwu G2 because it's a little bit shorter FL.

Here's 2 videos comparing the DTR G2 that's a good G2 and the sanwu G2, but as you can see the sanuw focuses so that it starts small and diverges, the DTR G2 focuses to a needle thin line a little further out, these both sit like 2 mm from the diodes face.
The beam is a tight fit into the expander and needs to be aligned very well, as do the cylindrical lenses, it's best to align them dead on center at a distant point, mine is 15 feet away, but if I did it desktop then just like aiming a rifle, every little fraction means feet in the far field.

I think for now I'm going to try and focusing on correcting the NUBM44 fast axis from a very thin line beam to as small of square beam as possible over as wide of range as possible.......

See what you can do, the G2's make the tightest starting beam as they have the shortest rear focal length, I get very close to the lens that's focused from 15 feet to infinity, it helps to mount close to the primary, I have tested it further out and the whole line is just wider.

I wish the NUBM06 had a can/window variant as the divergence is better, I could pull an 06 can and get very close but I'm afraid it would be short lived, if any of the AR coating at that close range burned and contaminated the emitter, well it almost certainly would.

See what you come up with, I would like to find a bigger, wider, stronger beam expander.

p.s. Venting air into the optics cavity is a very bad idea. Duhh I know right, well just thought I would mention it.

So after having now tested 6x, 9x, 12x and an 18x squeez of the NUBM44 diode beam coming out of the G2 lens, the clear winner is a 12x setup combining one OPT Lasers 3x Plano Concave lens flat back to flat back against one 4x Plano concave lens from Lasershow Parts, and correcting this beam with the final Plano convex lens that came with 3x lens from OPT lasers.

The beam widthe at the exit is about 5.5-6mm( more like 6mm)

Divergence results and beam shape:

An amazing 0.4mRad considering beam is 5.5mm, or 0.35mRad if we call it a 6mm which is probably more true. Its kind of hard to measure it that precisely!!
I have checked the beam throughout its path of 10m, as well as at the distance of 30m. It is not converging or transforming in any way.

Im very happy.

Here is a picture of the projected line at 10m. It looks better in real life, but I haven't figure out yet how to take a decent photo of it. As soon as I do, I will take more shots, and at 30m as well.

I feel like this is it now. I never had a laser with below 0.9mRad divergence, and now, ironically, it is coming out of the most diverging and the most powerful diode we have for this hobby. Its amazing.

This sounds great ! Thoughts ?

The beam I saw looked very wide, you can point at the page number and right click/copy shortcut and paste it here, I would like to see that 6mm beam and know which G2 he used if it was a G2 or not.

I am willing to do what ever works, I would love for someone to show me a better way, now divergence numbers that are lower when the beam is a foot wide do not interest me, I want a useable beam that can do useful work or fit out expanders to be focused to a point where they can do useful work.

I have not yet seen a recipe that is the best, I have seen some beautiful custom work, and I have seen some round spots that suggest clipping, the one that kobyashi had built by CDBeam777 that puts out 4. ? something watts and a fantastic beam looks great, but that uses a linos expander that is unique.

I would love to see a needle thin beam racing out into the night, show me how and I will build onto it any way I can. The goal in addition to making a beautiful beam is also keeping the power, if the NUBM06 would survive without it's can I would try to work very close to it's output.

I couldn't have said it better and I feel the exact same way because that what I'm after now !

I would love to somehow take the thin but wide beam that this beast outputs and correct it to fine beam in both axis without losing as much power as possible !

I'm going with this lens pair.....

638nm 635nm CYLINDRICAL LENS PAIR Mitsubishi Oclaro laser cylinder anamorphic | eBay

instead of a Expansion ratio: 6x of the "slow" axis it will give a Width reduction: 3X of the "fast" axis, It's what optlasers advised me to get for a NUBM44 diode.......

With the lens being only 12mm x 12mm and a spacing of only 25mm or so I will be able to make a pretty small mount for them which is what I want ! $62 + $9 shipping........

Specs sound great to !

An antireflective coating is applied to both surfaces of lens providing extraordinary light transmittance of >99,7 % for the whole 400nm - 700nm spectrum.

I'm suggesting it would be a good idea to contact Edmund Optics and talk to a technician. They will be very helpful.

They make their own lenses and they will be of the highest quality.

One question is, what are you refering to where you wonder how small this could be made?

Well I've seen a few Cylindric lens correction apparatus that other members have made and most of them were huge and unruly looking but I want to make mine as small as reasonably possible, This will give you somewhat of an idea how small mine will be and depending on how far away the first correction lens has to be away from the G-2 lens the tube shown in the pic won't be as long as it is from the heat sink to my thumb......

I cant help you, but I'm pretty sure Edmund Optics can. They do custom optics. Just talk with them.

That's ok as I know what I want and I have it all worked out, ElectricPlasma will be machining part of it and I can make the rest of it so it's all good ! :friend:

This corrector is going to be very small yet fully adjustable which is what I'm after with this.......
