Usually I review big and scary lasers, but that doesn't mean I have no appreciation for the simpler things in this hobby. I had been wanting a single mode 638nm for a while(the class IV units are nice, but they're huge and the beam profile is simply awful) and was torn between Lazerer and a Dragonlasers 638nm spartan. I've read mixed things about Lazerer on here, but having a LPM I figured I'd try them out.

The product
LZMN - 638nm 200mW Single Mode Orangish Red Laser Pointer

Overview: Buying the item was uneventful and shipping took slightly more than 3 weeks. The item arrived decently packed and in good working condition. The laser takes a single 16340 battery and is case +. Focusing is easily done by adjusting the ring near the front of the laser. Build quality seems to be decent and everything works properly.

I metered this laser with my LPM and it's exactly up to spec with very good output stability. The beam profile is good with minimal splash or artifacts around the dot. Duty cycle is stated to be 120 sec on/60 sec off, but I believe it's probably capable of more than that.

Due to the excellent beam profile this laser is surprisingly decent at burning. The output can be focused to a very fine spot and it easily lights matches, cuts through paper and etches into wood. Being a 638nm laser it has reasonable beam visibility at night. Roughly equal to a 10-15mw green laser I'd like to say. Not a bad laser at all for $65 shipped IMO.

~Overall scores~
shipping time: B+
Price: A-
Build quality: B+
Beam profile and burning potential for power level: A

I'd recommend to anybody looking for a quality single mode 638nm laser.

how does the color compare to your tri beam Sanwu?

*people say the tri beam is very unstable and it shift wavelength quiet alot...
Indistinguishable IMO. Same fiery orange color, with a much nicer beam profile.

Sweet!

Glad you got it safely and it came to spec too! It seems like Lazerer might actually be turning around and proving decent products, although I'd like to see more of this on their DPSS units before recommending them.

Have fun with it Razako :yh:

Good review and nice little laser. I am curious if there a huge different in color between a 650nm and 638nm?

I am always a happy lazerer customer. I own two lasers from this company and both are overspec (500mW 405nm Cyber and 100mW 532nm Mini). So far their 520nm really draw my attention. They have the best price for the 50mW 520nm I can find.

Nice review. I may have to get one of these sometime.

There's definitely quite a large difference between 650 and 638. 650 is a more pure red, while 638 is a fiery orange.

Razako- great review! The higher powered diodes are great for many things but man have I been on a single mode kick lately. Mostly with 405 but was looking for a nice single mode 638 to play around with. I'll have to give them another look thanks!

Came across that myself the other day, the only thing that stopped me from buying was all the bad reviews that Ive seen in the past year. Glad to hear more and more positive things about them and I think this thread helped push me over the edge, I want 520 in my collection.. no wait I NEED 520!

Thanks. I definitely understand the appeal of single modes. Sometimes you just want a nice beam rather than a bar output. If you get their 520nm mini-G be sure to let us know how it works. It appears to use the same host as the 638 I bought. I only have this one transaction with them, but there's nothing I can really complain about.

Definitely will do cause I am looking for a 520 and for $65 shipped that's not bad. I just get a little worried when I see you have to pay for a power certificate that's guaranteeing the lasers power. But then how is the laser guaranteed without a certificate or is it not? idk a little confusing to me. But I am diggin the price!

Well I didn't pay for the guarantee and got an up to spec item if that helps reassure you.

It honestly does, really appreciate that cause I like their prices but was a little hesitant with the power certificate costing extra and the bad reviews/experiences I have read about. I'm really leaning towards their mini-g 50mw. Their spec sheet says that they run 50-80mw so if I get lucky I can score one closer to the 80. If I order one I'll make sure to rub my lucky uranium marbles when I send payment!

Yeah I've had 1 bad and 1 good experience with them but the 532nm was the good experience and it was overall a great buy. Not too bad of a company l, just wish I could buy from Olike :( my browser won't let me.

Yeah what's up with that? It's hit and miss with o-like, sometimes all i get is redirected and other times able to get to some mobile type that does work.. I keep hearing all these great buys but feel like I'm missing out!

I have an amazing experience with my LAZERER order that is placed on April. It is a 532nm Chrome laser pen. Quality of the laser and the delivery time is great. Their 520nm mini pen look interesting. I may be getting one to see the actual different bwtween 520 and 532.
