I would like to update this thread real quick.

I just received my Hydra from Laserglow and on the website it states that it is Near TEM00, but multimode. This should be a dot and not a bar right? Mine is a bar.

-Alex

All current Polaris models list mode as:
Transverse Mode Multimode
Longitudinal Modes Multiple

I don't think corrective optics have anything to do with mode----if the Polaris was TEM00 then it would not need corrective optics.

Call Laserglow and ask them if the Hydra is supposed have corrective optics and if near TEM00 is a typo that was never corrected.

Will do, thanks! :)

most diodes, especially GaN (blue/violet) diodes are all a bar due to how they're constructed. They circularize them to make them have a more round spot probably to an extent in larger. its very expensive however to do that to a full circular spot. even LGs are not generally a full circle. just widened to make them a bit more round.

Yeah. I know multi mode diodes tend to be a bar, but they listed it as Near TEM00. Shouldn't that be a circle? :(

The shape of the beam is determined by the shape of the emitter mostly. Has little to do with the mode at all.
