They got kicked from Kickstarter and moved to Indiegogo. They already have 60k there. Guess people are just completely stupid after all.

Below is a copy of a note sent to all the Kickstarter "backers" of SKARP by Kickstarter that I found in a news article about the suspension of the SKARP project by Kickstarter..

"Hello,
This is a message from Kickstarter’s Integrity team. We’re writing to notify you that the Skarp Laser Razor project has been suspended, and your pledge has been canceled.

After requesting and reviewing additional material from the creator of the project, we’ve concluded that it is in violation of our rule requiring working prototypes of physical products that are offered as rewards. Accordingly, all funding has been stopped and backers will not be charged for their pledges. No further action is required on your part. Suspensions cannot be undone.

We take the integrity of the Kickstarter system very seriously. We only suspend projects when we find evidence that our rules are being violated.

Regards,
Kickstarter Integrity Team"

I just watched the videos last night.

I do think this was/is an interesting idea, and the science, to me, sounds okay. However, I'm underwhelmed by the execution and the comical level of obfuscation in the videos. I also have concerns over the practicality of the device. I get the feeling that a class I will not really be enough to get the job done properly, and yet a more powerful laser might lead to safety issues. Also, that fiber appears to be super flimsy.

I'm super curious about the wavelength of the thing. If it truly is (and I doubt that it is) something not widely available, then maybe this going into production would mean another fun wavelength of NIR diodes on the cheap.

Well, at the very least people definitely won't be getting scammed by pledging on Kickstarter. Didn't take em too long to get back on the horse with Indiegogo, though. :banned:

It looks like Popular Mechanics saw it too! :D The Skarp "Laser Razor" Is Going to Be Total Flaming Garbage

And here's one think that I wonder about, even if they could get everything else to work, how would they get the close shave? If they get the fiber to close to the skin the laser will burn the skin not the hair. And if they stay a millimeter or so away from the skin, then it will ONLY be useful to remove their beards and leave scruff! I mean, how could they do it? The only way to get to the base of the hair is to slide across the skin.

Ha! Interesting read. I cannot wait to see how this all turns out. It really seems like these guys are just throwing a lot of big words and expecting people to join the party (along with their dollars). Unfortunately, that's exactly what seems to be happening :cryyy:
