Yikes! Sorry to hear about this guys, I know you have been anxiously waiting for your 561 pens.

It seems like the only products one can buy directly from CNI are now labby's or you'll need to go through a re-seller to get a pointer <5mW's such as DL, UltraLasers etc...

Or you could have a "go-between" in China apply filters to the lasers that reduce the output to like 0.5mw just to make sure they get through customs.

It seem to me, with the lack of information, and this long a period of time , our 561 lasers will never be released, and at this point that we will ever get our money back since it has been almost two weeks since Styro mentioned a refund in post#284 not a word since, on this thread or by PM,s. I hope I am wrong .

Lasers are questionable... but you will certaintly get your money back.

Thank you Styro for the info. Since they were under 5mw I can only assume as lazerman pointed out, CNI screwed something up. Thank you again for the effort you put in Styro

i cant believe the FDA stopped it. they probably have people who got no idea what these things are over there.

CNI forgot to file for an accession for them. basically the pointer equivilant of a variance for them because its a 'new' product from what i've been discussing with them...as well as whatever other paperwork they're supposed to be doing. Customs doesn't have a meter and testing at the gate isn't standard. they have to be logged before they come in, shown that they comply and are labeled correctly, and all that other legal BS. basically, CNI was lazy.

^That certainly isn't good and really put into question the trust future LPF members will have in regard to doing a future GB with them. CNI being such a large company, shouldn't be skimping on something as important as properly filling out the paperwork for an international customer(s) to receive their products.

That's definitely going to have an impact on their reputation here.

Any idea what happens next? If it's just a mistake on CNI's part, could it be possible for a GB to actually go through? Hopefully without CNI forgetting to file the correct paperwork?
(poorly constructed sentence is poorly constructed^)

I think you'd need to contact the FDA at this point. Since the lasers failed to pass customs, the FDA IIRC has the option to either send them back to CNI, or simply destroy them. Even if you do get a hold of the FDA, CNI would most likely need to prove to them these lasers are indeed <5mW.

PS: I like your signature H2O :)

The situation is still up in the air....but...

It just once again drives home the point that handhelds and specialty pointers are rapidly disappearing as the world shifts to lab lasers again to improve control and quality, while helping to minimize the number of idiots misusing them, and help make them more cost prohibitive again...Or so the way the government seems to see it. Pissing off a few thousand people is pretty minimal vs the outlook of security of the much greater numbers of others who just don't care, or even can see it as a threat. Companies are just losing interest in caring about them. One lab laser brings in tons more revenue than a handful of pointers by far, let alone an industrial contract for them or more.
