These are cool! I always see these and wish i lived in or near an area with less light pollution.

One tip: I like to place the laser down facing straight up into the sky and run as fast as I can farther from the laser and I can see a beacon effect or a searchlight effect when I ran to the end of the street, if you got a bike or something you can go farther and enjoy the view.
It's a lot better to see them in person. Even neighbors saw the light from about a half mile away!!!

It also sounds like a bad idea having neighbors see your laser from half a mile away, I hope you don't live in a big city, you don't want to attract too much attention to yourself. You don't want the police to see your laser and come around to ask you what you're doing.

That was when I had the other laser gave about 5min duty cycle but I turn it on for 3min Max.

The police won't be a problem since I only shoot it at 2am or later. They are probably asleep by then. Rarely there will be any problems, but I'm afraid it might accidently hit a plane passing by while I'm away from it.

We had a very foggy night last night, took out my 4 watt 532nm lab laser and pointed it into the sky, beautiful, but every time a car comes by I turn it off before the get too close. I don't want anyone having any excuse to complain I had my laser pointed towards them, even if pointing at 60 degrees or higher into the sky. Didn't get it turned off fast enough last night and I'm writing this from a jail computer while they try to determine what law I broke... Naw, I'm joking, but I didn't get it turned off fast enough when a pickup truck stopped and yelled out "where did you get that?" He wasn't upset, I answered ebay! I'm so careful to get it turned off when cars come down street but this one snuck up on me quick.

Even though it was foggy last night, I heard an aircraft up there somewhere so I turned mine off, I sure don't want any problem with that!

I do the same thing. Its just not worth it if a cop sees it especially if an aircraft is going by at the same time..

I usually take my phone or laptop and turn on a flight radar when the sky isn't clear. It works very well and by the time one comes near me I just turn my lasers off. I too only use them at night to avoid police or unwanted attention.

Alan, would you mind telling me how much you paid for that lab laser and what model it is? I've been looking for something similar lately but I'm not sure what to look for.
