Ok, so I don't have much knowledge on lasers, but I was wondering something about these lasers I just got. I didn't get them from a company that specifically sells lasers, they're from Ebay. Both of these lasers are 5mw

First laser:

Second laser:
enACpnL.jpg

Edit: I should really get a camera instead of using my phone to take pics.

On the label it says it has a max power output of 1000mw. Does it really have that max output, and if so what can I do to get that?

Thanks.

These lasers are 5mw at the moment and I hope to get them at a high power output. And I know where to get laser goggles if I do manage to get it to 1000mw. Thanks :D

Hi rt58killer10, welcome to the forum
It is more or less a liability thing that it is listed as <1000mW Therefore if it puts out 5mW, 20mW or 70mW they are covered as they told you so as all those values are under 1000mW.
If you know what you are doing you might be able to tweek the components a bit but remember that can shorten the life span of the laser.
Please realize that you need to use safety goggles in almost all situations with any laser over 5mW
Enjoy, have fun and be safe :)

A great thing to use is the white search bar at the bottom of the page, works much better than the one at the top of the page.

rt58killer10, those 303 lasers are almost surely well over 5mW, but nowhere near 1000mW.
Chances are you're not going to be able to do too much to increase their output.

Take a look at this LINK for a detailed look at what's inside your laser. Like Laser Chick said, use the search bar at the bottom of the page, just type in "303 laser", and you'll get all kinds of info. :)

^what BowtieGuy said. You will most likely break it if you mess with anything. If you can see a beam it's more than 5mW and not eye safe for humans or animals. If you want something better, buy something better;) Be safe with your fun:)

Thanks for the reply. The laser itself was advertised at 5mw, and it says it has a MAX power output of 1000mw, so I was just wondering if there was anything I could do to get it to something more than 5mw. :thanks:

More likely, and for sure if you can see the beam at all, that 303 laser is anywhere from 30mW to 80mW. RARELY are they much higher than that, but sometimes.

It's high enough to need goggles for indoors. Have you blackened the head of a match and tried to light it yet? I have a new "5mW" 303 style laser, it lights matches, mostly burns through and cuts black electrical tape, and has a visible beam in lit indoors rooms. It surely is NOT 5mW, despite being advertised as such and labeled <200mW.

I don't have any matches to try and light. It has an adjustable focus, and when I've focused it, it can burn but I only really see smoke. I'd imagine I'd be able to light a match with one focused laser.

What do you expect---they are not a magic trick or something the responds to wishes. Just generic mass produced by the tens of thousands Laser 303s that cost between $7 and $15 depending as here: Laser 303 Best Deals + Free Shipping | GearBest.com

Yes return them and get something much better with highest quality and highest output see: PL-E Pro series lasers - JETLASERS.ORG a little less expensive but good quality laserbtb.com

Laser 303s are what they are--will be under 100Mw not IR filtered and OK for the price but don't mees with taking them apart unless you know what you are doing---they are low cost pressfit and/or glued mass produced lasers ---not really meant for taking apart --see that link Bowtieguy gave you.

If you are attempting to light matches or focus to a burning point that makes smoke without safety glasses on then you are risking serious eye damage that you may not notice right away, you might think it's ok but even small damage adds up.
Seriously what's your plan? Wait until you have a blind spot then spend a few bucks on some safety glasses?
Here's something else to remember, when you do get a better laser you can see the real focal point size with safety glasses on, without them you can't tell if it's focused at it's tightest or not. The safety glasses are also a tool that lets you see what the laser is doing and they can save your eyesight.

I do admit, I have been a bit of an idiot with them...

These lasers are usually advertised at a lower output power just so that they are legal with eBay and U.S./UK laws. That laser is approx 100-200mw if it can burn.
Ps:I've had one of those

You just saw 10 forum members response to the 303 lasers and there general output and build, and all were in the same ballpark. You just reopened this thread and got rt58killer10 hopes all up again. Ive way over estimated some of my lasers, and thought I had 150mw or so till the members explained different situations with light, smoke, pollution, or an example that 1 certian laser couldnt possibly make that much. And the obvious is they all say use a meter. What makes you think 100mw to 200mw I am not by any means being a know it all and I never would plus I dont have the experience. All of us when we first start want are first lasers to be more than what they are. Me too:)
