I received it as a gift and it was received off craigslist. Claimed it's from China
Looks exactly like this http://m.gearbest.com/led-flashlights/pp_105701.html?currency=CAD&gclid=CLSytaaWucYCFUFufgodDR0E7w

Sorry, can't embed links on my phone.
He said it can burn things but I couldn't even burn a leaf. Is it possible that I have the same model but much weaker mW?
Any advice? I have no goggles or IR filter, doin fine so far

Well I didn't think color is what burns things... I figured it's the heat energy exothermically emitted.
Anyways, I had tried on dead yellow grass too, doesn't even singe a scratch into walls. How long must I shine it at a focused point?

The color of the laser, as well as what you're burning, has a lot to do with it

So is this a good first laser I've got or should I quickly invest in an IR filter & goggles?

There are literally hundreds of threads about this exact same laser bud, we aren't going to spoon-feed you. Being able to find information on your own is important to succeed on any forum :)

That is a very cheap Chinese laser with no quality control, each one is different, they will vary in power a great deal, one may be very good and last a long time and another will quit on you in a few days.

Thanks, the guy was 50 & seemed to have it for years. Provided a battery charger & gave several precautions "dont overcharge battery, dont put battety in charger the wrong way, keep it on for no longer than 30 seconds at a time" etc. So if it's taken care of for years, it should live, right? Right!? :p

Wrong, wrong, a 532nm is DPSS, the cheap ones are poorly made and can break at any time. It will break if you drop it, it is temprature sensitive, and don't put the battery in backwards.

The guys are correct. I think is best for you try to burn black electrical tape, if your laser is OK, you should get some smoke from it.

Those lasers can have big power fluctuations and suffer from mode hoping when temperature changes, that's common for DPSS lasers, but more common on cheap ones.

They're OK for beginners, just take care to not drop it.

Just a advice, the switch button of those 303's are well known to fail shortly, making the laser unstable until the switch dies. Replacing the switch is the only solution when this happens.

I get the feeling, replacing the switch part costs about as much as getting a new laser altogether :/ might upgrade to a 150mW in due time if I can a stable one for $60-65

Will cost only the switch, I paid U$0.50 for two of those switches. The worst part is to open the laser without breaking it.

I suggest that you keep using your laser until it breaks, it will already worth the money.

laserbtb.com has some great lasers for cheap! Your 303 laser is a good first laser to start with, it helps new members learn about safety plus it's cheap! :)

Thanks, how can I test its strength? Hasnt burned anything yet & i'm always cautious & paranoid not to hit a reflective surface. These forums really know how to freak a person out about that lol. Bad enough there is IR leakage for now

Have you tried a black balloon? Black electrical tape? Match?

If you have an exact output power send it to one of the members to have it LPM'ed!
