Encode Data on Laser Pointer

Hi there,
I'm new to the forum and I have a question about a project I am interested in pursuing. I have already tried searching and didn't see any previous entries regarding this subject.

Project Scope: Structured Water
There is not much science about structured water, but the hypothesis basically states that water has a crystalline structure at the molecular level and this structure can be effected and organized through various treatments. Some of the treatments you will see people doing are exposing the water to 528HZ sound waves, vortexing the water, or vortexing the water while exposing it to a magnetic field, etc. It sounds pretty new age at first but there have been some interesting anecdotes and even a little bit of science regarding magnetized water on plant growth so I'm going for it.

Now for the Laser part:
What I want to do is encode a signal into the laser and beam it into the water while its vortexing in the magnetic field. I'm planning to get a tetrahedron shaped crystal and put it in the jar and shine the laser with the encoded signal into the crystal so it will refract all through the water, hopefully structuring the water according to the information within the signal.

I have a diagram showing what I want to do but I can't get it to attach.

Tl;dr: How would i go about encoding a string of ascii characters onto a laser pointer?

WHAT THE HELL?!!!!!!!!!!! Is this a structured water experiment? Or a Hyperdimensional Physics experiment?

If you had not mentioned the tetrahedron shaped crystal and other details and simply asked how to transmit and receive data with lasers you would probably have an answer or been told where to look. You are either a total nut case or a fellow mad scientist but I am inclined to think the former is true. If you are really trying to change the molecular structure of water with ASCII text then you are in fact a total nut case!

I am aware of the somewhat esoteric belief that this geometric shape (tetrahedron) can produce an anomaly that may allow connecting with other dimensions outside of the normal four dimensional space-time. If you are attempting to transmit data through to an unseen unknown hyperspatial reality in the hopes that someone hears it then you are barking up the wrong tree. And even if someone could receive the transmission how do you receive the reply?

Application aside; it's relatively easy to encode ASCII onto a laser beam but you have to choose your modulation scheme. Do you need: analog amplitude modulation, frequency modulation of a carrier wave, pulse width modulation of a carrier wave, pulse repitition modulation of a carrier wave, or TTL / Binary / Digital modulation? Your modulation scheme determines the circuitry needed.

Thanks for the reply,
I'm not totally familiar with all of those methods of modulation but would you recommend me the cheapest method? What I can tell you is that I'm very familiar with RS232 and have no problem sending out an RS232 message through a serial port. Is there some kind of method to hook up the laser to a relay that would modulate the laser off of the RS232 signal? I assume at that point it would be binary/digital?

Lol, dude I'm not that much of a nut job. I'm not trying to communicate to extra dimensional beings. If anything maybe I'm a little gullible, if you've seen the youtube videos of Masaru Emoto, this is more consistent with what I'm going for. I already know his stuff was basically debunked, but in my opinion that doesn't mean it's all complete bs; I think that the way he approached it was not scientific enough, and I want to keep moving in that direction, but try and make it a little more objective. So I will be growing two plants, one with treated water and one with regular RO water.

The messages I am going to encode are just positive intentions for the plant. If there is a deeper form of communication that I don't fully understand yet, I'm hoping that the signal encoded in the laser will be sort of an interface to transfer that intent into the water. The water will be highly energized from sitting in the sun and then being spun through the magnetic field, so to me it makes sense that a modulating laser frequency would be most likely to effect the water in this state. Sort of like the signal is being amplified by all of the energy, and the molecules would be guided by the binary patterns of the data. I'm counting on the hypothesis that certain emotions, and intentions, produce corresponding geometric patterns in reality. Basically just another way of saying that thoughts have a predictable and replicable energetic output. Language is basically just a way of passing intentions around; if you think about it, we are encoding our intentions into sound waves that we communicate when we speak, or light patterns that you see and interpret as letters, words, sentences, etc.

RS232 is a Digital communication scheme so you'd want a TTL modulated laser, preferably a diode and not DPSS laser as higher baud rates would swamp the driver.

Simply take the RS232 data out and send it through a voltage divider to step down the ~10-12V pulses to 5V. Feed that into the TTL input of a diode laser module.

If you want to use a true pointer or a diode module and standard driver you need a different setup; You need to make a 90%-95% (10K & 100K for example) voltage divider and feed the ~10V pulses to the gate of an N channel enhancement mode MOSFET. The ground side of the voltage divider goes to the fet's Source. Wire the diode module and driver up as normal, but place the N channel FET in series with the driver's negative power connection - the Drain goes towards the driver, Source towards your power supply negative. This will pulse the driver and thus the diode in synch with your RS232 pulses. You'll have to stick to lower baud rates because the entire driver will be powering up and down instead of just switching an enable line so there will be some delay and a lower ceiling for pulse rate before distortion sets in.

That being said, TTL 650nm <100mW modules are cheap on ebay and good to 20k baud usually.

p.s. this forum tends to have issues with people double posting. I won't bust your chops but keep in mind it's considered impolite and can get moderators on your butt.
