True, but making something illegal doesn't prevent people from obtaining it or doing illegal things with it. What making something illegal does is punish those who were using it legally.

Lasers, knives, guns, multirotors.. same principle applies.

Mayby registering the out of sight kind could satisfy that...illegal ones wont have right signal and can be singled out and dealt with.

I'd be perfectly fine with an amateur drone pilot license program, similar to amateur radio licensing. I advocated such for lasers a decade ago but it fell on deaf ears. All I proposed was limiting unlicensed users to 5mW and licensees to 1500W (same as amateur radio, essentially). Granted, the sole reason we get our 3B and up lasers through customs currently is due to a lack in the enforcement capability, so even if my proposal went through there wouldn't be much less laser crime than there is today. We would be able to legally import whatever we wanted provided we are licensed though, without fear of repercussions. That is an improvement upon today, a small one, but still an important one.

I'm glad that our elected government is
watching over us with THEIR drones.

When it is at this point we've already lost our freedom. If we're going to be in a cell I'd prefer one with a window. You're right though; never give up freedom for controlled privileges, but when are we ever given that choice? The choice always seems to be ban or regulate.

Just a liscence to identify responsible ownwers like cars and trucks.. the unlicensed ones will stand out. You wouldnt drive a car without the tags in place... i propose. Visual rc need no license but any thing beyound that needs some kind of signal to let authorities know that the owner is being responsible. A test of knowledge and safety is in order here since they will be flying in public areas. On your own land is your own buisiness. Weight class would be a factor too as liability and danger increases with size and power of the drone.

Unfortunately the law that is going into effect isn't even invalidated on private land, it is wide scope and unrestricted.

Also, I left out the part of the law about how all model aircraft drones need to be for "hobby only" purposes and that using one for anything business (such as a laser show, aerial photography, etc) would open the operator up to legal punishment for operating a commercial drone without FAA Preapproval (and it is NOT a small fine or fee to get approval).
